Seeing your astonishment, the marquis continues to speak gently, as if to give you time to compose yourself.
"Speaking from my own experience, it is likely that the next aspect to change will be your eyes," Marquis Rajes pauses, and your eyes move to meet his crimson ones in the mirror. "It does take some time, however, so accommodations can be made." As he concludes, Marquis Rajes pulls his pince-nez from a vest pocket for you to see, then slides it back. "Another effect, possibly due to regenerative properties as I theorized before, is that the body seems to maintain itself in what could almost be described as apex condition, provided enough sustenance is procured."
"As for further possible changes," the marquis glumly states, "I am only aware of possibilities passed down anecdotally and in myth and lore, since as I have said before, I have never met another vampire before you." You turn to question the marquis further, but he raises his hand to stall you.
"Let us first sit down to dinner before we discuss this further," the marquis says, turning to the doorway and motioning for a young maid, which you did not notice was waiting outside, to enter. "Birea here will act as your lady's maid for now and help you prepare. I will see you again shortly," Marquis Rajes states as he exits the room before you can interject.
There is something different about the maid that appears before you now. As she approaches, you cannot see anything of import clearly, but the moment she stops before you, you nearly gasp in surprise. Unlike all of the house servants you have seen before, she is obviously not human.
