Animalia Magazine: Irregular Nature Edition

added by makutamon 3 years ago O

The September Issue of Animalia Magazine was not only different because there weren't a lot of federal or religious holidays in September, but because of the latest successes of the newest "member" of Project Chimaera. The Polymelia "gene" was the newest member of the strange side of nature, with the hermaphrodite gene being the "oldest" and thus there was new interest in stranger animals. While there were still those who were transgender choosing the herm option, there were those who were amputees who lost some or part of all of their limbs and were planning to grow them back "with extra", but the cost of gaining polymedia was still expensive enough that it wasn't readily available outside of Project Phoenix.

---

The "Cover Couple" was a little unexpected since it was Angie, Ochekka, and Dan, but since all of them have Polymelia, it made a little sense to feature them. But because they all had different ways of gaining four arms, the article that talked about it talked about different ways that animals could gain Polymelia. It was a little surprising to learn that Ochekka had been afflicted with a parasite that caused her to develop Polymelia, which some readers considered a little disturbing and/or "squicky".

---

Another strange yet interesting article was one that talked about equally strange creatures that were depicted to exist on other planets according to theories from both biologists and astrophysicists. While some would be expected, others (due to mainly experiencing science fiction shows) were very different. These were often explained using the laws of science and evolution, as well as what would be required for survival on certain kinds of planets.

---

There was also an article that talked about things that could be found on our planet that were so weird they might as well be extraterrestrial plants and/or animals. All of them were explained as only being found in a certain kind of environment. Rocket was considered exhibit A of such a claim since she was a mangrove killifish.

---

Another exclusive article talked about strange things found only in religion and mythology. Part of it was inspired by the fact that, while Mr. and Mrs. Hanson were taller than most horse Animalians, they weren't "giants" as one post on the internet tried to claim them to be, due to a forced perspective optical illusion. The article talked about mythical creatures with either multiple heads, arms, legs, or both, as well as whether or not such a creature would survive on earth, such as giants being unable to survive due to not being enough oxygen in the air to sustain said large forms.

---

Finally, there was an article that talked about famous internet hoaxes that were fully debunked. While some of them were a little surprising, there was some relief that there wasn't a real sleep deprivation experiment that had taken place in Russia during the cold war. It also talked about the origin of the pictures that seemed to show archaeological evidence of ancient giants, which were actually real archaeological digs that artists reshaped to look like giants.

---

Overall, everyone really liked this issue of Animalia Magazine, and several used the internet hoax article as living proof that "You can't believe everything you see online."
