Robert and Sally supported each other when they entered the office to get delivered the bad news. Both felt weak and nervous about the coming news. They had heard stories of the monster virus. Some people had changed genders! They could only hope that it wouldn't happen to them…
The nurse, Robin Little, a friend of Sally's smiled at them sympathetically. "I...I can't imagine what you're going through."
Sally didn't answer and instead hugged herself, while Robert just smiled politely. "Thank you."
Robin hesitated and flipped through some papers. "We… should just get into it. Remove the bandage so to speak." She looked directly at Robert. "Mr. Maron… you're turning into a lamia."
Robert's heart sank. "You mean… those female snake monsters?" he choked out a question.
Robin nodded, before turning to Sally, letting Robert muse on the revelation. "Sally you're turning into a lizardman. Emphasis… emphasis on the man."
Sally recoiled and Robert just looked down sadly. "I guess that means our marriage is over…" he said miserably.
"Well actually," Robin said brightly, surprising both of them. "This is actually the best case scenario in this worst case scenario." Seeing their confused expressions she decided to further explain. "Both lizardmen and lamia are are a cross between reptiles and humans, though typically look more human except for the obvious reptile part of their body. Well regardless, lizardman and lamia can safely breed without any problems and, are in fact, the best possible monsters to form relationships."
Robert just stared. "But… we're changing genders."
"We've found that sexual orientation isn't likely to change. So if you were straight as a man you'll be straight as a woman. Meaning when you change you'll be attracted to males."
Robert and Sally exchanged a surprised look. Sure they might be exchanging genders but if that meant they could stay together…
Robert cleared his throat. "So this will happen for sure."
Robin's smile faltered. "Well…" she shifted in her chair. "There is a 15% chance that the transformation will vary, but…"
"Well," Sally said, speaking for the first time, her voice firm. "I guess we'll just have to get lucky."
