Edwin thought for a moment, letting his eyes wander around the paired students. Most of them had chosen to tie their legs together. Edwin like to think of himself as a black sheep, not wanting to follow the crowd. "Yeah, lets tie it around our waists, like belt." he finally said as his eyes met his partner's. He was curious how the rags would join them when used in this fashion. None of the other pairs of students seemed to have used the rags around their waists.
Henry also seemed eager to give Edwin's suggestion a try, "Alright." His partner stood to the left of Edwin, explaining that he was left-handed. This worked perfectly in Edwin's mind since he was right-handed. The two boys wrapped the rag around their waists. Henry tried both ends in a knot, and the magic of rag began to take effect.
Like Edwin had written, their clothes began to unravel first. Their shirts began to interweave and constrict, forcing the sides of their shoulders and arms to press together. The right leg of Henry's pants and the left leg Edwin's shorts curiously began to unweave, revealing their legs. The same thing occurred with their respective right and left shoes; they seemed to melt away, revealing bare feet.
Then, the next step began, which surprised even Edwin. His left foot blended like putty into his partner's right foot, but then their joint foot started to shrink and disappear. Their shared, middle leg was absorbed into them. Edwin was so awestruck by their middle leg vanishing, that he had not noticed that his and Henry's sides had also joined together, leaving him with only his right arm. The process finally came to a halt when their clothes finished stitching themselves together. Edwin found himself completely sharing one body with Henry. He stared down, slowly taking in his and his partner's merged form. They wore two mismatched shoes with an unusual pants-shorts combination. Henry's blue jean leg covered his leg, while Edwin's leg was still bear, with his brown shorts touching his knee. Their shirts had interweaved into one, creating a complex purple-black coloration with two neck holes.
"This wasn't what I expected when I suggested wearing the rag as a belt." Edwin said. He and his partner were connected in a much more extreme fashion than any of their other classmates. He added, "Its like we share everything from the shoulders down."
"I don't know," Henry replied, "I think we are essentially one person from the shoulders down, or... two half-people fused together from the shoulders down." He seemed to be examining his left hand, rotating it palm-up to palm down.
As his partner rotated his hand, Edwin realized that he could not feel his partner's hand. Edwin noted that he had no sensation over half of this body, Henry's half of it. "Yeah, we kind of are like two-half people." He turned his head to look toward Henry, whom also turned to look. They had to crane their heads apart, to avoid brushing noses. "I guess we stumbled upon hard mode for the three-legged race."
Henry laughed, his smile reaching to his ears. "More like we reached the Insane difficulty."
