It looked like three nerds in the photo? Katie was beyond confused, but only became more confused as soon as she looked up. Standing where the bitches had been standing where three short, nerdy girls. They all had acne and messy hair, wearing multiple layers of clothing that did not match well.
They were all clearly freshman, but to make Katie even more confused, they looked familiar. The one in the middle was clearly black, with a curly, unkept afro, extremely dark skin, and everything, but her face looked just like Hailey's! To her right was a taller but lankier white girl with greasy brown hair, who looked a bit like Veronica, and to their left was a Chinese girl with short hair and a sprouting bubble but. She looked the least like the previous girl, but Katie could still make out Alexis' face in the freshman.
"... and then I beat him with my sword of Azeroth!" Katie heard the girl who looked like Veronica sat, as she suddenly focused in, and realized that the entire time they had been chatting about DnD, not even looking at Katie.
"uhhhh." Katie managed to sputter, confused out of her mind.
The three girls turned to see Katie and all started blushing, and practically sweating bullets.
"Um, hi. I'm Hanna." The girl in the middle squeaked. "I've seen you around before... you're a senior right?" She asked.
"You... don't know me?" She asked Hanna.
"Well... I know of you. I mean, not in a weird way or anything, I just uh-" She sputtered before Alexis jumped in.
"What my friend here is trying to say is that we know you're not a bully like some of the other girls in this school, and we'd really appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone we liked DnD." She articulated better than Alexis had in her whole life.
"Oh of course..." Katie replied, shocked by the girl's awkward and nice behavior. "In fact, I've played it now and again."
Their eyes lit up. "You have?" They all chimed before having concealed squeals.
"Oh, girls, we're gonna be late for class!" Hanna yelled. "Not good. Mei, Violet, let's go!" She said as two of them ran out.
"Thank you." Violet said before following.
As soon as they left, Katie's jaw practically dropped to the floor. She leaned against the wall before sliding down in total shock. Had that really happened? Was she having a mental breakdown? She picked up the photo and it still showed three completely different girls.
"The camera." She said silently to herself. "The camera must've... changed them. Like magic. Oh God! What are their parents gonna say!? What about the school!? I gotta find them!"
She quickly ran from the bathroom with the camera in hand, but was suddenly swamped by a heard of people. She didn't even hear the bell chime because she was too busy internally panicking. She struggled to make her way past the ignorant students, desperate to find the former bullies.
Eventually she managed to get near a stairwell to have some breathing room. She began to skim the horizon but was unable to find them. She figured they were too short now to stand out in a crowd. That's when she did spot someone a little easier to see.
"Becky!" She yelled at the cheerleader. Becky was second best, right behind Hailey in the cheer squad. If anyone was to notice the odd new girls, it would be her.
Becky turned with a scowl to see the poorest dork in school approach her.
"Ugh." She said, twirling her brunette locks. "What do you want?"
"Have you seen three short girls walking around?" She asked partially out of breath.
"Um, yeah, it's a school? Are you crazy and stupid?" She asked rudely.
Katie was taken a bit aback by this, as Becky wasn't exactly nice but was never directly mean to Katie before. "I- I mean, I'm looking for one kid, who looks a bit like... Hailey?" She said, trying her best not to reveal what she had done.
"Hailey who?" She replied, clearly confused.
"Uhhh, ya know, Hailey? Hailey Masters?" She replied frustrated.
"Never heard of her." She replied coldly. "Now if you don't mind, I'm gonna be late to class, and as head cheerleader, I have an image to maintain dweeb." She scoffed before walking off.
Katie couldn't believe it. She had no knowledge of Hailey. On top of that, she mentioned that she was head cheerleader. As Katie walked down the hall, the final kids all stormed into class. Katie had class, but she was too freaked out to even try and attend. As she walked down the hall, she spotted "Hanna" in the front row of a math classroom. She was raising her hand, along with several other students, and not a single person was confused by her presence.
"Oh my God..." Katie muttered. "This thing changed reality, the world. Nobody remembers Hailey or her friends. They never existed, just Hanna and her nerdy buddies."
She glanced down at the camera in awe. Could this thing really have done that? Before she even had time to think, she heard a swift "Hey!" Behind her.
"Why aren't you in class?" Old Mrs. Hick growled as she shuffled towards Katie. "Damned kids and their disrespectful attitudes these days. Katie thought about running, but decided this might be a good time to see if the camera actually did anything to begin with. Katie quickly raised the camera, and snapped a photo of the old hag. In an instant, she warped as her fatter figure vanished. In her place, stood a high school student with pink died hair and a ton of piercings.
"Seriously Katie." She said coldly, vaping in-between sentences.. "If you're gonna skip, you might want to do it in a more discreet about it. I'd show you my spot, but I don't like people." She scoffed before walking upstairs.
Katie could only laugh. She had a magic camera that could change reality in a n instant. It could alter anyone, and everyone would remember it always being that way... the only question now, was how to use it?
