Jenny instinctively retreated as the man continued to approach menacingly. She only stopped when her large rump bumped into the wall.
Meanwhile, the attendants began to restrain the horse as she shied away from the man’s advances. She tried to rear up and shake her head in an effort to stop them, but it was difficult in the office’s confined space.
“Such a feisty little mare” the man teased as he drew closer. “Don’t worry doc, with any luck this will make you much more accepting of your new role in life.”
With that, two attendants tried to yank Jenny’s mouth open while a third steadied her. It was a difficult task since the mare possessed powerful jaw muscles. But after a struggle the horse’s lips parted for a brief moment. This small opening was all that was needed. Jenny’s eyes widened in fear and anger as she felt the cold metal bit of the bridle enter her mouth.
She tried to spit it out, or shove it out with her large tongue, but the experienced attendants knew what they were doing. In mere moments the bit was in position at the back of the horse’s mouth, whilst the other straps were slid over her nose and fastened.
“Right” the head attendant announced as the feisty horse continued her attempt to dislodge the unwanted headgear “let’s see if this works. Jenny… stop struggling!”
The horse instantly felt a powerful electrical buzzing reverberate in her head. It wasn’t painful, just strange, and completely unstoppable. Without really realising, Jenny’s demeanour shifted from terror to calm in a heartbeat. She didn’t understand why, but she just wasn’t able to form any ideas about continuing her struggle. The bridle had worked!
The head attendant motioned for his three colleagues to withdraw, to check that this wasn’t some kind of trick. They watched in amazement as the horse simply snuffled around and swished her tail, as if she was completely at home.
Having determined that the device did indeed work, it was now time to have some fun…
