Terry awoke the next day, feeling just as energized as before. After a long day outside in the hot sun he would usually notice various aches and pains. Today, he found himself ready to run wild yet again. As he entered Jessie’s living room he could see Sarah and Jessie sitting in the couch as Duke ate some breakfast. “What are you guys up too?”
Jessie smirked, holding up a bottle of nail polish with one hand and Sarah’s foot with the other. “Your girlfriend here needed a mani/pedi,” she said casually. “Luckily for her so did I so were just having some girl time right now.” Terry glanced over the couch, seeing the two girls applying nail polish to each other’s feet. “Cute,” he remarked with a smile.
“Glad you like it,” Sarah grinned. “Anyway Dukes cooking breakfast while we’re busy so if your hungry talk with him.” Terry nodded as he approached his friend. Duke was currently sitting down, facing away from the girls as he ate, the boy dressed in a T-shirt and sweat shorts as he gobbled down some bacon. Terry now pulled up a chair as he smiled at his friend. “How you sleep Duke?”
Duke looked up from his phone, nodding his head before cautiously looking back at the girls. “Me I’m okay,” he said quietly. “Umm, How about yourself? You sleep alright?”
“Yea buddy I slept alright,” Terry said quietly. The two boys now shared an awkward silence as they thought about what Duke had confessed yesterday, and what the two had done together previously. “This is gonna be real awkward for us huh,” Duke said, his cheeks flushing.
“Yeah probably,” Terry conceded as he grabbed some bacon. “I mean, we both have girls right now that we want to be with. We also happen to be at a very awkward age where are hormones are going ballistic.”
“Sounds awesome,” Duke grumbled as he shoved a handful of bacon into his mouth. “Ugh why the fuck am I thinking like this? I mean sure I love you like a brother man but I don’t think I ever thought about you like that.”
“Gotta agree with you on that Duke,” Terry said quietly. “I mean it wasn’t..bad, but you know you and Jess and me and Sarah. Who knows what’s going to happen when the magic item gets here. I mean do we go back to how we were, try to get a second chance, I’m still trying to figure it out.”
“Yeah me too,” Duke sighed, before sighing in annoyance. “Ugh puberty is so damn annoying. My emotions are all over the place man. I like you, I like Jess. Ugh sometimes...”
“Sometimes what,” Terry asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Sometimes I wish we hadn’t given the lots away,” he said. “I mean if we were a little younger, you know not having to deal with insane teenage hormones. Maybe we could actually think clearly.”
Terry paused as he gazed at his friend, that was not an idea he was exactly thrilled with. The group was already smaller, skinnier and much younger than they were accustomed to. The idea of actually wanting to become even younger, smaller and skinnier was not a very appealing option. “I’ve heard better plans Duke,” Terry said bluntly. “Look, puberty sucks Yeah but do you really want to become even littler than we are already? Think about it man, your talking about be what 10? Maybe younger than that? And what about those two, you think they really want to end up as a couple of 6 year olds in pigtails?”
“Probably not,” Duke grumbled. Taking a breath he now slumped his shoulders before looking up at his friend. “So what yu have planned today? You seem to be the head honcho around this place.”
“Not sure how I got that job,” Terry chuckled. “But I’m thinking maybe something quiet, like video games. That is unless anyone has any other ideas.” Duke shook his head no, video games did sound like a good idea. One he hoped would allow him to focus on building a relationship with Jess and keep his focus off of his feelings for Terry.
