It was strange that Lian stood taller than before. Then again, standing on digitigrade toes would do that to you. She craned her neck left and right. It was like her head was being pulled from her shoulders.
Suddenly, parts of her skin felt odd, itchy even. She looked down at herself and found scales had spread like goosebumps from her clawed toes and up to her abdomen, stopping just below her belly button.
At least I wouldn’t have to worry about indecency, she thought bitterly, noting how the scales had covered up her groin. Rubbing over her thigh, the scales were leathery and bumpy to the touch, and they were gray with a red hue. Over her groin, the scales were a shade of light tan.
She dreaded the worst as she took off her shirt and turned, her eyes still on her mirror. The ridges on her spine were more pronounced, traveling from the top of her neck and to the tip of her tail. Scales had also spread to her tail, now about the size of her legs. The top half of it was gray and red, with the bottom half a light tan. Without thinking, her tail waggled. It was so strange for her to be so used to it already.
Concerned, Lian crawled her hands on the back of her neck, finding out why it was so taut. It was stretching, albeit at a slow rate. Her heart skipped a beat when she pulled out her hands, finding how much easier it was to pull bits of her hair out.
A strange sensation traveled through her hands as they began to crack and pop. Her fingernails thickened into sharp black claws. Her fingers stretched and swelled, with her pinkies nowhere to be found.
Lian stumbled and fell on her bed, watching as the scales spread to her arms before stopping at her shoulders. She sat up with more of her hair falling out. A brief pain pierced her tongue as it ran over her teeth, and she looked in the mirror once more. Opening her mouth, her teeth had grown a tad bit sharper, though could still come off as human.
She wanted this to be over, but some part of her knew it would continue sooner or later.
