"Whew! That was a close call," thought Dan, coming in for a landing by the creek. He wished he could sigh physically, and not just mentally, but the he couldn't really breath through his mouth anymore. He could still drink through it, though, and the water was smelling fantastic. He crouched down and twitched his antenna over it excitedly, then finally caught some of it in his still human hands. He gulped down as much of the water as he could until he felt refreshed. He'd been told that humans shouldn't drink water straight out of a creek, but he was going to be an animal now, and animals didn't have much choice.
"Ah, that feels better," he thought. The the strangest feeling overtook his eyes. It was like he couldn't blink. Then it was like he didn't have eyes at all.
"Ah! I'm blind!"
When Dan's vision returned, it was kaleidoscopic nonsense at first, and then his brain started to sort it out. He could make out the stream, the rocks, the sky and the trees, and of course his long antennae twitching out in front of his face. It was really weird, though, because everything looked pixelated like an really old computer image. What was even weirder, though, was that Dan finally realized that he had a very nearly panoramic field of view. He could see both in front and behind himself, and also to the side. He could see his own wings without turning his head!
"I don't know if this is better vision or worse, but I guess I'm gonna have to get used to it," he thought, as he tried to adjust and get his bearings.
