"This is actually pretty fun," thought Dan, scuttling into the kitchen on his walking legs. "It's like there's no way I could fall over. It's like crawling around everywhere, but with twice the stability, and still having a pair of hands free," he thought, looking at his claws.
Dan knew this was meant to be a punishment, but he had to admit Kat was right--he really was enjoying this. His first instinct was to view his changes as awesome, even when he gained his first lobster claw. What other teenager had two powerful strong claws and eight dexterously coordinated legs to use as he saw fit? Physically, he felt better and more capable than ever before. The only really bad part was the fear and the loss of status. It was scary was that no other teenager--no other human--had ever been like this, at least so far as he knew. He was already less than human, and there didn't seem to be any turning back. For all his newfound power, he was ultimately no better than the frozen food item thawing on the kitchen table.
Speaking of which, Dan didn't appreciate Kat's little joke there, and it was the last thing he needed to see right now. He picked it up in his right claw and was about to put it back up in the freezer, when something strange happened. He took a good long look at it, admired its claws, its walking legs, and still other appendages that he was yet to experience, and realized that this puny, lifeless lobster looked... delicious!
"I haven't eaten since school," he thought. "I haven't had a bite since before this change started."
It was embarrassing to stand there hungering after his own future self like this, but something about being bigger, badder, closer, and hungrier was urging him on. It was then that another change emerged to push Dan over the edge. Little hairs grew out from the little pincers on his walking legs, and before he could wonder what they were, they linked up into his nervous system and started sending him tastes. The floor beneath him, the air, around him--it was like having tongues in his feet! It wasn't as bad as it sounds: apparently he was meant to taste the world underfoot, to have his foot-hairs always on the look out for lunch. And he ravenously wanted to taste something scrumptious right now... something edible... something like what he was holding in front of him.
Dan took a furtive glance around... the last thing he needed right now was Kat to see this and make some snide comment about it. When he saw he was still alone, he went for it. A new instinct guided him as he crushed the lobster open in his right claw. It cracked like a pinata, exposing its appetizing flesh and juices to the outside world. Leaving most of his feet on the ground to stay steady, Dan dug his forefeet into it and relished the taste of luxury that rippled up his front pair of legs. He wasted no time in guiding them up to his mouth to get chunks of flesh onto his real tongue. Dan hadn't known that lobsters crushed their meat with their claws and ate using their walking legs, but he knew this felt like the most natural way to feed himself now. He even ate the thing's exoskeleton before he was finished. He checked the refrigerator for himself and found some clams, which he greedily scarfed down the same way.
Finally sated for the moment, Dan put his forward feet back down, still tasting the seafood juices they were drenched in, and then scuttled his way back out of the room. He felt really guilty about having just eaten what he was turning into like that. He didn't know that lobsters are known to be cannibalistic. He just chalked it up to being really hungry and needing fuel for his change, as well as anxiety over his own fears of being eaten, and so he tried to put it out of his mind.
