As much as Jen was trying to stay untransformed, the idea of being a hive mind intrigued her too much.
"Jen?" Laura grabbed her attention again.
"Huh? O-Oh, yeah, I suppose I could find a use for it..."
"Great!" the mad scientist responded, "Come to the nearest girls' restroom after class. A couple of me are stationed there."
'A couple of me'? Did recursive people have their own grammar or something? What had Jen gotten herself into?
---
Jen did as she was directed and headed to the restroom to meet Laura's spare bodies. "Ah, good, you did come," one of them commented, beginning to pull a kit of some kind out of her bag. The other took Jen aside and began explaining the procedure.
"So, just as a preemptive, I'm not entirely sure this will work," Laura began. "From what I can tell, my recursion is based around a special chemical in my blood. The substance you're about to be injected with-" Jen winced at that word, but Laura ignored it, "is a synthesized version of that chemical. Strangely, whenever I've tested it on animal subjects, they've somehow always been in possession of recursive abilities. From this, I can only conclude that the substance has some reality-altering ability." Wait, reality-altering? So it was the same as Jen's transformative pills!
The other Laura finished her preparations and took a kneel on Jen's other side. "Thus, if this does work, you will be the only one capable of remembering your life before it. So if you have any questions about recursion afterward, please ask me and only me about them, because no-one else will believe this is new for you. I won't believe it either, but I'm at least prepared to accept it as true despite that." The Laura holding the syringe rolled up Jen's sleeve, and before Jen could react, pushed it in. It tingled, but it didn't feel like it hurt like the needles at the doctors' would've.
"Alright, and just to confirm," Laura then asked, pulling the syringe out and applying a bandage, "you are sure you were incapable of recursion before this treatment?" Jen nodded, still a bit confused. "So then it does work." Both bodies wiped sweat off their brow. "Okay, that settles it, then. This chemical does alter reality to some degree. Now, do you have any questions?"
"Um..." Jen hesitated, but it was probably best to get it out of the way first. "Well, to start with... How exactly do I replicate?" Laura seemed eager to answer this one...
