The Magic Shop

Dragon-riders and their dragons.

added by Unnamed 3 years ago O Magic Mental

Colin always dreamed there was friendly dragons living in the world, and with his powers he could make this world reality, and the way he wanted it. Sure, he needed someone around to answer his questions for it to work, but as luck would have it his sister was eating breakfast with him.

"Say sis, do I know everything about how things are once my power alerted reality? Are peoples, be it humans or dragons, unable to realize I have a reality-altering power even if I speak of it with them?"

"Yes, yes."

"Is it true dragons are known to be very friendly to humans?"

"Yes," she answered in monotone, "a shame they don't exist."

"But dosen't dragons actually exist? Aren't they able to do everything the ones from fantasy can, regardless of what the laws of physics would say?"

"Yes, yes."

"Do they ‘speak’ via telepathy?"

"Yes."

"Do they live as only one nation, governing all of them?"

"Yes."

"Are their society, unlike ours, a matriarchal one, with an empress at its head, but still treat their males fairly?"

"Yes."

"Does this empress also happen to be the eternal and only true divinity in the whole universe?"

"Yes."

"Is it true that dragons can grow as big as a bus or a tractor-trailer, although larger? But somehow lay eggs the same size than a chicken one? Does a dragon really reach their adult size at only 12, but can live for millennia? Are they really independent the moment they hatch?"

"Yes, yes, yes, yes."

"If a human touch one of these eggs before it hatch, does it create some sort of link between the dragon inside and this human? Does this link have a psychic component? Is its true nature too complex to be put into words? And is this link why dragons usually don't let humans anywhere near their eggs?"

"Yes, yes, yes, yes."

"Is there some exception? Humans that somehow proved themselves exceptionally trustworthy, to the point they were offered a dragon egg, so they could link with the baby dragon inside?"

"Yes, yes."

"Are linked dragons able to take on a human form? It is of the same sex than their true one?"

"Yes, yes."

"Is it true that dragons need their empress' blessing each time they want to have kids? If one of the few dragon/human mixed couple out there decide to have a child, will said child always be human unless they get that same blessing?"

"Yes, yes."

"Are humans linked to a dragon called riders? And only linked dragons accept to transport peoples on their back? Do they accept to be ridden by someone they aren't linked to, and is it on the condition their rider is there too?"

"Yes, yes, yes, yes."

"Are dragons the reason humanity can create all it does without polluting? Is said technologies used to make the harness permitting to ride a dragon? Are said harnesses made so when the dragon wearing them take its human form it transform into human clothing, and only turn back into a harness when the dragon return to its natural form? Still about the harnesses, are they space worthy? And is it because, thanks to their magical nature, dragons are space-worthy themselves?"

"Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes."

Okay, the more important is done thought Colin, now the bonus part.

"Is it true that on my birthday, when I was 3, a dragon was convinced a malicious man to steel the dragon empress only egg? Did that same dragon, on the same day, somehow lost the egg, making it fall toward the ground? Was I the one who saved it, linking me with the immortal dragon princess Hope, only daughter of the empress? Did said Empress hate that her daughter was linked to a kid back then? Have I proved myself so extraordinarily since then that I was recently declared an honorary dragon? Did princess Hope and me start dating last year? Is our couple so happy we're guaranteed to love each other until the end of times?"

"Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes."

Since Colin was satisfied with the results, he let Jane out of her trance, finally letting her say something else than a monotone and repetitive yes. "You know Colin, even with all the drama it caused between the goddess and you in the past. Few are lucky enough to become a rider, and its usually of a dragon of the same gender. I admit being jealous, even if that ‘link’ business creep me out.

"It shouldn't, sis. It doesn't blur the frontier between a dragon's mind and the one of its raider, like most people seem to think. It just let Hope and me communicate like dragons usually does between them, which mean we can share ideas, sentiments, feelings or memories, regardless of how far apart we are. That, and the link also act as some sort of compass, so we always know in which direction is the other."

"I still feel like an unnatural level of intimacy, at least for us humans…" She sighed. "Will you let me know the next time she visit us? I… I want to discuss it with her, know how she see this…"

"I'm sure she will happily share her viewpoint on the subject. And did you forget she stayed the night? Just wait until she wake-up."

Jane briefly got back in trance to answer with another emotionless "Yes" before returning to her true self and adding. "I'll go do my morning jog, she should have woken up once I got back."
