Erin Cooper was not normally one to go on a blind date, much less over to a guy's house for one, but her friend Jess assured her that this guy was on the up-and-up, really great, nothing to worry about. They'd hit it off for sure. Now Erin wasn't so certain.
As she looked at the address on the sheet of paper in the fading sunlight, she confirmed it matched the number on the wall next to the rusty gate. Walking up the walkway, she noted the rather overgrown foliage, which gave the property a run-down look, despite its apparent size. That impression was only compounded when she came into view of the rather large house, which looked almost haunted. The dark stone exterior had ivy growing over much of it, and in the twilight, the house and the large trees surrounding it threw ominous shadows everywhere. This was getting a bit creepy.
Even though she was regretting letting Jess talk her into this, Erin decided to at least knock on the door and see if...what was his name? John...John Robertson! That was it. If John Robertson was home. If he was as weird as the house, maybe she'd pretend to be a survey taker or something and high-tail it outta there.
Gathering up her courage, Erin walked up to the imposing door. Taking a breath, she lifted the heavy knocker and let it fall twice.
::THUD THUD::
Discomfited by the odd echoey sound, Erin was just about to turn and make a run for it when to her surprise, the oaken door creaked open, letting a warm, almost welcoming light shine from within, silhouetting a rather attractive young man. Erin was dumbfounded for a moment.
"Are you...Erin?" At her slow nod, the young man smiled. "Hi, I'm John, it's a pleasure to meet you. Why don't you come in? Sorry the place looks so intimidating, ..."
