Now they were two wolves, two foxes and two deer, who followed and served them. Meanwhile, their hunger had not yet been satisfied, when they said to the foxes, "Listen, you sneaks, give us something to eat, ye are cunning and devious."
They answered, "Not far from here lies a village where we already have many a chicken have brought; We will show you the way there."
So they went to the village, bought some food, and gave food to their animals, and then went on. But the foxes were well informed in the area where the hens were, and could correct the wolves everywhere.
Now they moved around for a while, but could find no service where they had stayed together, then they said, "It is no different, we must part."
And after they had divided the animals, so that each a wolf, a fox and when they had a deer, they took their leave, promised brotherly love unto death, and thrust the knife which their foster-father gave them into a tree; whereupon one moved to the east, the other to the west.
