This was supposed to be a nice holliday with the kids. Taking them to see something far away, but not *this* far away.
You are Greg a 45 year old father of two. Your lovely wife Bethany that's taking this surprisingly well is a few years younger than you.
The kids are a 16 y/o boy and girl aged 12. Flint and Belle were taking the whole thing quite well, except that their phones didn't work at all after the first day.
We waited until they managed to get to the cargo, because we wanted at least some changes of clothes. Meanwhile a scouting troup had managed to find a river to the south, so a source of water was secured. All the while people dispersed in all directions in the hopes of somehow finding anything.
After the ressources in the plane started becoming scarce we also had a vote on wether to leave camp plane. It went 3:1 in favor of leaving. Only Belle wanted to stay, arguing that there wouldn't be anything in some other world anyways. Start of the rebellious teens? Maybe.
We had decided to go to the river in the south and head west up river. Most people went down river, because they thought it more likely find some kind of civilization that way, but one of the reasons we left camp was not having to deal with people we didn't know.
I had some memories from being a boy scout and Flint had also some survival knowledge from internet videos, so we did manage to set up fires. Being close to the river allowed us to regularly get water which we could boil on those fires. We had managed to get a kettle from the plane by trading it for some of our medicine that my wife had packed with her magnificent foresight. Having safe drinking water for us was a lot more valuable than some non-prescription antibiotics.
While walking along the river we sometimes saw animals in the distance. They ran away when they saw us of course, but they looked not unlike those we would see on earth. Maybe slightly different. The rabbits we saw had horns and the bird were strange colours. It was hard to make out most of them because of the distance. Seeing them did remind us that we still needed food though, that's why we set out to hunt and gather.
Flint and my wife would try to set some traps. Flint claimed he'd seen how to do that once. Me and Belle went looking for anything that we could pick like Berries, Mushrooms and maybe some wild carrots if we got lucky. We tried following a group of deer looking animals to see what they ate and luckily found a kind of berry bush. They were safe to eat for the deer-esque animals and some other critters were eating those that fell to the ground, so we could probably eat them, too. Better boil them first though. After we had filled our pockets with berries we decided to go scouting some more seperately, but keep each other withing eye sight.
When we all returned to the camp later it was time to tell each other about what we found or achieved. We had gathered berries, Flint had set a trap and Beth managed to find some mushrooms. We had something to eat for the night and also the chance to catch during the night.
While eating we talked about what we had seen during the day and somebody also chimed in with something else they had found.
