With his situation only getting more desperate James knew he couldn't afford to give up now and bounded towards the front door in the hope of making his way out into civilisation. Even if he couldn't communicate with humans anymore, a giant ape roaming the streets was likely to at least cause a scene and raise some awkward questions for Elspeth. Perhaps that might convince his captor to restore and release him?
To James' immense frustration, he quickly discovered that he no longer posessed the dexterity required to remove the latch or operate the door handle that stood between him and his potential freedom. Panicking now, and with his hopes of escaping Elspeth's spell dwindling by the second, he began banging his fists aggressively against the door, grunting and howling as loudly as he could in the hope a passer by may investigate the strange disturbance. He no longer cared that he was behaving like the animal he had been reduced to, he had to do something and there wasn't much else a big, hairy ape could accomplish.
The laughter from Elspeth's direction soon confirmed to James that his plan wasn't working and, to make matters worse, he couldn't help but notice that the guttoral grunting sounds he had been making had begun morphing into a much higher pitched screeching sound, or that his surroundings were gradually growing. Turning his head, James was shocked to see the beginning of a tail forming from above his buttocks and rapid extending itself behind him.
Not knowing what else to do, he turned round and headed back towards the mirror to examine himself once more, moving on all fours again and now finding this not only preferable for getting about but almost a necessity.
The sight that greeted him in the mirror was both what he expected and a complete shock. In the past few minutes he had regressed from an ape, which had at least somewhat resembled a human, to a small, pathetic looking monkey. There was no doubting he had descended completely into the animal kingdom now. If Elspeth had claimed him as her domestic pet nobody would have questioned it. He finally accepted that escaping this predicameng was beyond his increasingly limited capabilities now. His fate was in Elspeth's hands.
"Oh you're such a drama queen James!" Elspeth chided her little monkey aftervhis latest burst of activity "Just try and to stop fighting my magic and enjoy the rest of the experience. I know I am!"
