The camera of change was not sentient, but the mystical force powering it did have a will. It "desired" to be used as much as possible, altering reality in a chaotic series of ways. For decades it was used to transform people in various locations, as it had been used as a photo shop's primary demonstration camera. For years it was able to transform whoever was unfortunate enough to walk inside, some people even multiple times as they became regulars.
Eventually someone managed to bring the camera home, where it caused even more chaos until it was stored away. It was only freed when Emily and Rick managed to find it one day at a garage sale, feeing its power. The magic powering the camera quickly learned that the new owners were not going to use it much at all, or if they were not very randomly, so it did the only thing it could do. Abandon the camera.
Miles away, a mysterious energy appears hovering in a store. As it appears, it startles a fish in a bowl which is on the counter. Suddenly, the fish calls out.
"Hey Old fart, something's here for you!" She says.
"I told you," An old man dressed in a cloak grumbled as he walked around the corner. "if you keep calling me that you'll spend another month as a fish... Oh my. I thought I'd never see that again."
"Why? What is ti?" The fish asked annoyed.
"It's a reality altering spell I infused into camera decades ago. Huh, I thought it had been destroyed. I made it so that once the camera grew outdated it would exit that device and come back to me. I wonder why it took so long? Eh, regardless I'm happy to see it."
"Happy enough to turn me back?" The fish asked.
"Keep asking and maybe you'll spend a year as a toilet." The wizard huffed, with glowing fingertips oozing magic.
The fish shut up and the wizard turned to his creation. After a few quick movements he sent the spell on its way. It flew out of the magic shop and out into the world, ready to create a new reality altering object, and one with a more relevant design. Where does it go and what becomes magic?
