The casting director was an older heavy set woman who led Dexter to a table where a camera was set up and to Dexter’s surprise the director of the show was there along with the series lead Bryan Morris. He was playing the dad and was a very well respected TV actor who had made it big in the 90’s and even had several movies in portfolio. He relatable sense of humor and comedic timing was a huge draw with middle Americans and obviously the big draw to this new TV show.
“Hey there Dex thanks for joining us. My name is Mary Little. I’m the casting director. This is Larry Jorgensen our director and I’m sure you recognize Bryan Morris our series lead.” Mary said introducing him around.
“It’s a pleasure, thanks for having me.” Dexter said shaking hands with the table.
“So Dex...I know you are in for the roll of Todd but I have to be honest with you. The part has been cast. It’s going to Sam Aris.” Mary said.
Sam Aris was another young actor and sort of a rival with Dexter. They were actually friends but Sam had more success then he had recently.
“Uhh...okay...is there another part open?” Dexter asked confused.
“Well...yes...We still haven’t cast Madison yet.” Mary said waiting his response.
Dexter was a bit confused. “Umm...okay but that’s a female roll right? Was there a change or something to the character?” He asked.
“Well...not exactly. The character is still as described...However...Our sponsor...GGC has asked us to try and experiment a bit with this role.” Mary said.
GGC stood for Global Genetics Corporation. They were currently one of the largest companies dealing with genetic engineering. It was new and very controversial science. Everything from cloning, age fighting, even gender changing and race changing.
Many people loved and applauded GGC for their advancements in genetic technology but others saw them as tampering with the human genetic structure and accuse them of playing god.
Dexter looked to the casting director as he was almost afraid to ask what GGC wanted.
“GGC has asked that the main lead played by Madison represent the growing numbers of “Changed” peoples. They feel like representing this character in this way will not only show off the safety and strength of their genetic technology. It will also give off a positive message to all people who has changed their outsides to better match their insides.” Mary said.
“So...are you asked me to have a Gender Switch done to obtain this role?” Dex asked.
“Yes...it would only be required during filming weeks. You can have the process reversed during breaks.” Mary said.
“I....uh...I’m not sure.” Dexter asked a bit nervous.
“Think about the opportunity. We are advertising this show as the first major sitcom with an openly changed actor in it. You could be that actor Dexter. Think about the doors this would open for your future. Hollywood needs people willing to adapt and change.” The director Larry said suddenly speaking up.
Dexter was caught off guard and didn’t know what to say...This was a huge role and major opportunity for him as an actor but taking this role meant changing his life in a drastic way he wasn’t sure he was ready for...
