Altered Fates

Kid to Buck

added 18 years ago A

Jared watched intently, waiting for a good moment to strike. If the kid started to walk away, she'd have to chase him down to get the amulet, but she hoped that if she just waited, he'd just toss it aside. It's not like the thing looked valuble, she remembered that it looked about as expensive as something you'd get at a garage sale.

The kid didn't seem to think it was something all that important, either. He looked at it, but didn't toss it aside. He walked back to the blanket he'd thrown out of the shack before and sat down, useing the edge of it to rub it clean.

It was only then that Jared realized that it wasn't a moth eaten blanket the kid was using.

The kid didn't even notice what was happening at first. Jared watched as his ears got longer and his hair shorter, turning light brown in the process. It wasn't until he dropped the amulet as his fingers shrank into hooves that he lept to his feet, "What the hell?" he yelled out.

He tried to step away from the pelt he was sitting on, only to stumble backwards as his legs got tangled up in his pants. He chest started to expand and his t-shirt ripped apart as brown-furred legs replaced his arms, revealing a white chest.

The new deer shook off the human clothing remnants, and Jared felt a bit of jealously as he watched antlers begin to grow on the kids head. Either there were two pelts in that shack, or the amulet worked randomly on animal gender.

It wasn't long before a buck was standing in the clearing. He started nosing at the pelt, picking it up in his mouth and tossing it around, hitting himself with it. It took Jared a few minutes to realize that he must think the pelt did this, not the amulet!

The buck started sniffing the wind, and turned to look straight at her. Crap, she thought. She remembered all too well the confusion from the first few hours as a doe, the instincts mixing with human thoughts, and how hard to was to fight them. It was the whole reason she was still a doe, after all.

She thought about running away, but the amulet was now sitting in the middle of the clearing in plain sight. If she ran, she had a horrible feeling that she'd never see it, or humanity, again. If she stayed, she ran the same risk if she couldn't resist this buck!
