Jared stepped from the brush and approached the buck with a great deal of caution. She didn't let her mental defenses down even for a moment, because she knew that's all it would take.
The buck, predictably, took immediate notice. She could sense that he was fighting, but not very well. Jared knew that this was the time of year that all a buck could think of was mating. They'd do it for the next six weeks if they could. Somehow, he had a feeling that the kid wasn't up to the challenge of fighting the urge.
Jared kept one eye on the amulet, and the other on him, while trying to figure out what to do. She was content to let him sniff and posture while she tried to think, but she knew after just a few moments that it was going to be a losing battle. She'd have to find that old sock quickly...
