You are the 17 year old prince of the Kingdom of Helgen, one of the many kingdoms that was established on the continent of Eris centuries ago. The dragon problem that has plagued the various kingdoms since they were first founded has led to the fall of many of the Early Kingdoms, but not Helgen.
The reason that Helgen has remained for centuries is because of an old deal that the first king, Kristof I, made with the dragons. In exchange for Helgen’s prosperity and peace with the dragons, the twelve villages in the kingdom’s territory must offer one virgin between the ages of 13 and 17 each year. From there, the twelve dragons that live within the kingdom’s territory will each take one of the virgins, where they are never seen or heard from again.
No one knows what happens to them. Some believe that the dragons eat their human sacrifices, and others believe that the dragons keep the teenagers as pets. Whatever the case, when the yearly offering rolls around, everyone, especially those between 13-17, gets nervous. No one, not even the royal family, is exempt.
Which leads to your current situation…
You had gotten up that morning in a rather good mood. Today was the last day that you would be at risk of becoming an offering to the dragon that lives near Helgen, the kingdom’s “capital city”. You hadn’t been chosen for four years, so why would you suddenly be chosen today?
Your servants helped dress you for the ceremony, despite your countless requests for them to let you get ready yourself. Once you were ready, you met your mother and father, the king and queen, on the balcony that overlooked the courtyard where the townsfolk gathered. A few minutes later, you hear the flapping of mighty wings from the sky above. You turn your head just in time to see a magnificent dragon soar by the balcony. It was covered in magnificent red scales with yellow scutes on its chest and underbelly.
You stared at the dragon in awe. You had always been fascinated by the mighty creatures, so much so that you spent countless hours in the castle’s library reading books about the mighty beasts.
As your father began to give the speech that he does each year, you continued to stare at the dragon, who appeared to be scanning the crowd to see his options. Then, the dragon locked eyes with you. At first, you tried to look away, but the more you tried, the harder it became. The creature’s reptilian eyes were somehow so...mesmerizing…
The next thing you knew, you were being led off the balcony and down to the courtyard where the dragon was. Before you could question what was happening, you felt the dragon’s mighty claws wrap around you before it took off into the sky.
As the dragon flew away from the kingdom, the realization of what had just happened finally sunk in.
You were the offering.
After about a ten minute flight, the dragon landed on a small outcropping just outside of the mouth of a large cave before proceeded to go into said cave. Once inside, the dragon sets you down on a large rock.
“Greetings human,” the dragon says in a loud, booming voice that confirms its gender as male. “I welcome you to my humble abode. I apologize for being silent during the flight from your former home, as I was busy thinking about the preparations that need to be made.”
“P-Preparations?” you ask with a bit of a stutter. “Wh-what kind of preparations?”
The dragon lets out a loud laugh that shakes the entire cave.
“Simple, human,” the dragon says. “The preparations for you to become…”
