It was a series of coincidence that brought my powers into the light. On my 6th birthday, my mom arranged a sleepover party with the neighborhood kids. Of course, I wasn't popular in the block. We recently moved in and there are rumors that I lack powers.
Out of the ten kids who attended my party, it's only Kyle who remained for the sleepover. We weren't close friends per se but the idea of sleeping in another's house fascinated him. Especially that this would be his first time at a sleepover.
Per usual, we ate snacks and played video games. By 8 PM, we dressed in our pajamas and went to sleep. By then, I felt my whole body warming up. It was as if energy bound and jumped inside me. I was hot all over but I didn't shed a single sweat. My neck felt uncomfortable and it's hard to even breath. I tried to reach for Kyle but suddenly, my hands merely passed through his shoulders. I was surprised and as a result, I slipped and fell on top of him.
When I woke up, the heat was gone but I felt strange. My whole body feels like a hand on the wrong glove. Everything is wrong including me. I looked around and looked for Kyle but he was nowhere to be found. I opened the lights and the sight in the mirror startled me.
It was me but not me. My reflection did not show a black-haired boy with freckled cheeks, rather, it showed a blond kid with blue icy eyes. He looked unblemished except for two moles that doted his neck. The boy in the mirror wasn't me. It was Kyle and I am him.
I ran to my mother and explained what happened. Seeing me bawling in the body of the neighbor's kid must have confused her as she was speechless throughout it all. After I told her everything, she put her hands in my shoulder and told me to calm down. She asked me to close my eyes, breath and imagine pulling myself out of Kyle's body. Superpowers are born from the mind after all.
Before I knew it, I felt my body separating into two. I burst forth from Kyle's sleeping body and jumped into my mother's arms. For a while, we kept the whole thing as a secret. My powers are too great but luckily, it's hindered by a weakness and condition.
I have the power to possess other people's bodies as long as they are sleeping or unconscious. But the same thing can happen to me. People can freely enter my body if I'm sleeping or unconscious. So I try to avoid sleeping in public spaces or hold more sleepovers.
For a while, people thought of me as powerless. That fine if it weren't for the social pressure of high school asking me for my powers. It's everywhere! Friends keep asking me to show skills. Assessment exams always need a display of your power to pass them. Luckily, there's an option to opt-out due to 'philosophical concerns'.
Anyway, as a high school student, I am in ____ right now.
