The new mermaid Amanda just floated there, still not sure what to do. She ran her hands over her skin, it still felt like normal skin and then she ran her hands over the transition point between where her “human” flesh turned to the silver scales of her tail. She could feel her hand through the scales as if it was normal skin which it was now to her.
“This is just weird.” Stated Amanda
“I know, I went through the same thing.” Confirmed Nancy
“Where are my friends, can I talk to them?” inquired Amanda
“They should be at the viewing chamber by now.” Said Nancy as she swam toward one of the doors, she pulled back on the door. Amanda followed, somehow she knew she had to move her new tail side to side instead of up in down like Mermaids in the movies. Nancy moved her tail that way. As she followed her, a merman moved into what seamed to be a hallway but underwater. Only instead of a fish tail or a shark like tail like Amanda his lower half was an octopus with eight long “arms” with suckers on them. Amanda watched as this merman used his “arm” to open a door while he carried items in his normal human arm.
A mermaid and a merman entered as well and to Amanda’s amazement the mermaid was topless. They paid Amanda and Nancy no mind as they swam down the hall.
“Alright.” Said Nancy as she came to a stop beside a door. She turned and looked at Amanda. “The next room has underwater microphones which will allow you to talk to people on the other side of the glass.”
“Alright.” Said Amanda as Nancy opened the door and gestured her to swim in. She did and found a rather large room with one wall made out of glass with a normal room on the other side. Her eyes widened as she saw her friends all standing there along with a few doctors.
“Amanda?” inquired Lisa’s voice through speakers as Amanda swam up.
“Yes, can you hear me?” inquired Amanda as her friends nodded their heads.
“You look good.” Said Monica “Silver works.”
“I am still not totally sure what is happening, I just turned. They have a drug which speed up my change.” Explained Amanda “I am just happy to still be a woman and while having a tail is strange, I saw someone with an octopus tail.”
“Yes, they showed us photos of some merpeople with eel tails, octopus’ tails, lion fish tails, shark tails and so on.” Explained Rose as she paused and looked behind her at the doctors. “They say we are going to be turned after this.”
“We wanted to see you and make sure you where ok.” Said Stacy
“Can we turn together?” inquired Amanda looking back at the doctors who stood behind her friends. “I mean, I know that I am already turned but can I be with my friends when they turn?”
“We have chambers where family members can turn together, in fact you are right next to one. “We will have to do it one at a time, but you can be all turned and then go to the cultural center for ordination together.”
All the girls looked at each other and nodded in agreement.
“I’ll go first.” Said Rose, she felt as someone who had some medical training she had to go first. Also she just wanted to go first to get it over and done with.
“Follow me.” Said the Doctor as Rose took a deep breath, hugged her friends and followed the doctor into the next room. She was lead up a staircase to the surface, there she found a small room which a bench and a large opening which dropped down into the water. “You will need to undress and get into the water. This chamber is attached to the one your friend is in.”
“Alright.” Said Rose as she took off her cloths, taking the time to fold them for some reason before lowering herself into the water. She didn’t know what to do until she saw a different mermaid, one with green hair come up from below, she could also see Amanda a little more back. She assumed correctly that the water filled room was L shaped.
“The change will be almost as once, are you ready?” inquired the Doctor as she pulled out a needle.
“Ready.” Answered Rose as she extended her arm and let the needle break her skin as she said goodbye to humanity.
