"You know about the Chronivac?" Shawna asked.
"Yes, my Queen. We were keeping close tabs on all technological developments leading to possible transformations. Magic is very weak on this world, so we figured our best bet was technology."
Jayutah went to the keyboard and started clicking around on the Chronivac program. Danitru gave Shawna a tight hug. "Mmmmm. . . You feel nice. I feel so liberated being out of that pallid male body!" she murmured.
"OK" said Jayutah. "I think I've got it. You clicked on "aware," which meant that you would be aware of your change. The program interpreted that as Sean being aware, so it kept you Sean and locked out your Shawna persona."
"Shawna persona?"
"Your curse was different from ours. Danitru and I kept our consciousness as Amazons, while being compelled to act like the men of this world. You had your personality completely suppressed, so that you actually believed you were Shawn. Your physical change triggered ours and lifted our compulsions, but it didn't trigger your psychological change. If we toggle to "Unaware," though, that should eliminate the Sean persona and replace it with Shawna."
"Hey, wait a second! I don't want to have my consciousness destroyed!"
"Why? I mean, Sean was kind of a loser even for a man! Why would you want to keep on being him?" Danitru asked.
"I am him! I don't want to die just so someone else--this Shawna person--can have my body!" Shawna broke from Danitru's embrace. She turned to Jayutah. "OK, let me look at the thing." Jayutah got out of the chair and Shawna replaced her. She stared at the screen. There had to be some way to check if this crazy story about suppressed Amazon queen-personalities was actually true!
