"Ok, I think that was everything unless they decided to add more stuff on our checklist." Chad groaned out as the two Priestesses went into a small diner for dinner.
Sitting down with Chad and looking over the menu John said "Yeah, we got everyone's attention for those shrine permits and... You were more involved and I was kind of glossing over it, how did we end up getting enlisted to take down several terrorist organizations?"
Chad sighed and said "Does it even matter at this point? I was able to find them and transport you to them with my powers, and your time stop took most of them down in basically an instant. We even managed to rescue some Priestesses so... Now those shrines should be a lot easier to create, and now we can actually rest without you having to rewind yourself."
John chuckled as she browsed the burgers and said "I thought the rewinding myself to take care of my needs were behind me... Still useful for general physical fatigue though."
Chad said 'You have to take better care of yourself. Seriously I had to portal a spooked Priestess a couple of times before they bashed you in your little stopped time bubble."
John said "And that's why I don't have to my little great helper."
Chad asked "But what if I wasn't looking?"
John rolled her eyes "Come on, you don't even need your eyes to look."
"...Fine then Jane, just be careful against another priestess... your fighting style is kinda... cowardly."
"Hey turning off time and subduing everyone isn't cowardly. It's 100% effective."
"Except when it isn't."
A waitress came over and said "Hi, I'm Bri i'll be your waitress for the night. Can I get you started with something to drink?"
John said "I'll take a coke and I think I'm ready are you?"
Chad nodded and said "I'll have a diet coke and... could I get the Cesar salad?"
John said "And I'll take the quarter pounder." The waitress left excited that she had met the priestesses who were all over international news. The two waited a bit just enjoying the ability to not do anything right that moment. Looking outside the window and watch cars drive past in the night. Bri came back with their drinks, and then a few minutes later their food. It wasn't absolutely quiet or peaceful, there was the background noise of the other customers and sounds coming from the kitchen. However it beat the constant action the two basically had to do to complete all their tasks.
Picking at her salad Chad got curious and asked "Say, mind if I ask what it's like when your rewinding your hun-" Chad looked up from her salad and then noticed "Wait, where'd your burger go?!?"
John took a breathe and said "I may be a girl, but I was doing a lot of work and worked up an appetite." as she took a sip of her Coke.
Chad said "But you were rewinding yourself."
John sighed and said "It takes a toll on the soul." Chad sighed and started munching on her salad a bit more as John nibbled on her fries.
"So... still up to binging some shows?"
"Yep"
The two had decided to binge shows at John's house as it had a lot more room than Chad's small apartment. As the last show ended Chad asked "Did they really pull out a deus ex machina?"
John said "Yep, and they decided to pull a plot twist for the sake of subverting expectations or something."
Chad giggled and said "It's so stupid."
Dolly walking through the living room to get to the kitchen said "Oh hi. Just passing through hope I wasn't interrupting anything."
John shook her head and said "Nah, episode was ending anyways."
Dolly grabbed a soda from the fridge and said "Alrighty then... good night, don't stay up too late." and gave John a small wink before leaving for her room.
John grabbed the remote and started the next show and sighed "I swear, we've got to figure out some way to get back at Silky for taking that picture and sharing it with everyone."
Chad sighed and said "...Yeah... it's like everyone's expecting we're going to be a couple or something."
John nodded and said "You were a nice snuggle buddy, but now I think it'd be better to see how this alien god thing would even affect this budding friendship of ours."
The movie played for a bit but Chad asked "Well... what if we tried that?"
"What? Pretend to be a couple?"
"I mean, what if we tried being a couple? See how it works out, and if it doesn't we stop."
John thought for a second and said "Sure, let's call it an experiment." and scooched a little closer to Chad.
