Laura finds her daycare experience every bit as degrading as she had expected. Hours of being talked down to and pretending to be interested in playing with her "peers" makes her wish for a boring day in the office. It isn't until naptime that Laura finds her opportunity to retrieve the dice.
As it turns out, once all the children were laid down to sleep the staff are much less attentive. Laura manages to stay awake this time and sneaks into the room where Linda left the dice. The counter was high for her current height but Laura doesn't want to risk the noise of dragging over a chair. Instead Laura uses the shelf handles as a sort of ladder. Once the dice are in reach she reaches to grab them and as she does her foot slips. Tumbling down, Laura gasps in pain and horror as the case and dice fall along with her.
"Four years you have walked this Earth. Now this number is but one. Each roll of the dice returns more of what you have lost."
As she shrinks too small for her toddler apparel, Laura wonders and fears what the result of one more roll would be. Would she vanish or maybe start losing months instead of years? She shudders at either thought. With some difficulty, she pulls herself from her clothes and examines her new pudgy little body finding it no different than any baby she has ever seen. Forcing herself to focus, she looks to see where the dice ended up.
