Amanda was only able to read it for a second. She had always dreamed of being an actor, to shine on stage and make the whole world love her. But Hailey's interruption had completely messed her up, and she watched in horror as autocorrect changed Actor to Tractor. She wanted to scream, but before she could reality changed.
Hailey couldn't believe this had happened. She had been enjoying her day at the salon when a loud crashing sound had ruined everything. Her customers scattered as broken glass flew around the shop. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. A tractor had somehow crashed into her salon!
Farmer Brown watched in horror as his tractor had broken off from the back of his pickup truck. He had taken it in for repairs, but upon arriving the shop pretty much told him it was trash. He was planning on taking it back to his barn to strip for parts when this chaos broke loose.
The tractor now sat slightly crooked while half inside the salon. It laid on top of a chair which was smushed into the ground and next to a broken receptionist desk. It had no thoughts. It was simply a tractor.
Hours later farmer Brown pulled into his land with a half busted tractor being tugged behind him and a cop driving adjacent. The cop looked at him sternly before driving off. Farmer Brown got out and sighed with his head shaking when his wife walked out looking concerned.
"What was that about hun?" She asked. "And what happened to ol' Amanda?" She asked touching the tractor's side.
"It was a mess Beth. The damn thing broke off my truck and flew into some salon in town." He grumbled. "Good news is no one was hurt and the damned machine was busted anyway... but we're gonna be paying out of pocket for the property damage."
"Oh goodness Chuck." Beth gasped. "How are we gonna pay for Tyler's elementary school bills? Or April's high school education? Or college?! The farm's already going through a lot...."
"Don't you think I know that already!?" He snapped back, causing Beth to go silent. He managed to calm down and gave her a hug. "Sorry hun, I know. It's just been a rough day."
"It's ok." She replied, looking for something to change the subject to. "What's in that bag?" She asked, pointing towards a plastic bag Chuck was holding.
"That's just some parts from ol' Amanda that broke off." He shrugged.
"Then... why is there a phone inside?" She asked puzzled.
Chuck Brown looked at the bag for a moment, confused as to what his wife meant, until he spotted it. There was a cell phone lodged in some of the Tractor's gears. How had it gotten there? He reached in, managing to yank it out quickly. It was shockingly in one piece despite all the chaos.
"Maybe we could sell that for some extra cash?" Beth suggested.
"Or, maybe that'd just get us into more trouble if this belongs to one of those uptight ladies." He retorted. "Look, let's just keep this in the kitchen for now.
Beth internally disagreed but fell silent to appease the clearly irritated Chuck, and the two walked inside past the animal pens, leaving the truck and broken tractor in the dirt driveway.
They walked into their small house where there was a little 8 year old boy coloring, and off in the distance was a teenaged girl texting on a slightly out of date iphone. Chuck turned on the phone, and noticed it was opened on some strange app, but ignored it, turning it off and leaving it on the kitchen counter.
There it would sit, until someone in the family finally picked it up a few days later... but who?
