Marsha and Donovan sit in a rear booth of the Pleasure Island Coffee Corner, sipping lightly at some hot coffee so as not to scald their tongues.
"How come I never saw any of this when I got here?" Marsha asks.
"Well, the 'free customers' like you and me used to be only ever get to see a very VERY small portion of the island, and they don't have much time before they become permanent residents, like you and me now are. Most of the island is reserved for the paid customers."
"About how many do they acquire per year?"
"No clue on that one. I've seen a few here and there, but I could never tell you how many since we don't see even one quarter of what goes on here. Most people get shifted into farm animals, beats me as to why, when it'd probably be easier to just get natural farm animals, but the people here are pretty sick. You and me got off lucky. Most of us lose every last bit of our humanity and go straight to the breeding pens."
"We're not breeders? I was under the impression that they wanted all the eggs I was going to be laying."
"Oh, don't get me wrong, they're breeding us. You, me, Taylor and your friend... uh..."
"Linda..."
"Right, Linda... were very carefully selected to be perfect genetic matches as well as familiar with each other to a degree. Taylor and I were roommates in college, and when they acquired us, they went about searching for who would be our perfect genetic matches to make the best children."
"Me and Linda."
"Exactly."
"But what qualifies 'best children'?"
"Damned if I know. I just wanna make sure that I at least get to know you before... well, you know."
"Yeah... I'm honestly a little... you know... afraid..."
"Me too. I thought I'd be so excited when today finally came that I'd jump and screw you the minute I saw you... but now that it's here, I'm just scared. Wanna take it slow."
"Slow's good," she smiles, and they click their ceramic coffee mugs together.
"To the start of a beautiful relationship," Marsha says.
"With a beautiful woman, no less."
"Oh, stop, you're gonna make me blush."
"We don't blush."
"Oh, you know what I mean."
