Mika was surprised when her phone beeped... she was even more surprised when she saw the number. Contrary to popular belief, beings beyond the veil were not against modernization, and often went right to work figuring out a way to do with magic every time humans invented a new gadget to make their live easier. So yes... Mika had a MAGICAL cell phone as a gift from her second family.
She clicked 'answer' on the screen.
"Mom? Dad?" Mika whispered as her friends were entranced by the many other rides. Many focused on furry transformation combined with 'return to innocence', given Circe's own positive experience with it, it was no surprise that so many of her new rides also focused on this.
"Dear... " Said her father, the giant golden kitsune saying through the screen. "You. Your family. And your human family. Everything. Is in terrible danger."
"... Has Lilith lost it?"
"No. Adam's first wife appears to have remained mollified thanks to Baba Yaga's plan.... This is far... far worse... meaningless strength has come."
"... What?"
"Sorry dear!" said her mother, pushing into the screen some. "That's what your father calls them. Beings of such power, that measuring them is meaningless. No amount of training, or combined strength can match them. We could sense it even from where we are, though an overrode sending spell sent near to your location! ... Even if we forged an alliance with the dragons and the unicorns it would be as nothing."
Mika shivered. Having spent a second life time with her kitsune family, hearing them say THAT was disturbing on a whole new level.
Her father continued, "A direct fight would be meaningless. Training would be meaningless. Combined alliances would be meaningless. No tactic would work. This kind of power BENDS causality itself by its VERY PRESENCE! No matter what strategy was forged, no matter what weapon created, no matter what information gleaned, it would all turn out to be meaningless against them, thus 'meaningless strength.' They are effectively INCARNATIONS of strength."
Mika said, feeling woozy, her human disguise fading as she lost her concentration, green furry ears popping out of her ears and tail. "So... all we can do is run?"
"Run. Unless they think you're WORTH chasing, then running itself becomes meaningless."
"... There isn't ANY way to win?"
"The only realistic way to win, is to hope there is an angle they are not infinite upon. And even MENTIONING something they might be vulnerable to will dramatically decrease the chances they ARE vulnerable to it! And even then, it'll only work once or twice at best!"
Her mother said, "It's possible, from what I feel, that fate itself might spawned these beings INTO being through happenstance simply to clean this branch of existence of the chaos of the splitting lines of time."
"So they work for the fates?"
"NOT IN THE LEAST! Not anymore than forest fire you start works for you! They have no master and they won't stop until there is nothing left to burn."
"... So what ARE they unbeatable at? Even if I can't say what they MIGHT BE beatable at without them suddenly being unbeatable at it?"
"... Direct combat: Magical. Physical. Weapons. You claws. Doesn't matter. You will die. The goods news is... I doubt they will strike today... as such, as your mother, I BEG YOU, spend your time today with those you love as purely and happily as you CAN! Because none of us may be alive soon."
"... I understand mother," Mika bowed as she hung up, having unconsciously shifted to her humanoid kitsune form.
