The camera was in the hands of Georgia, one of the school's most popular cheerleaders. Emily had never seen or heard of Georgia before, but she somehow knew her name. She also knew the camera was definitely not in safe hands. Georgia was sneering at the thing and showing it to a gaggle of other cheerleaders.
Steeling herself, Emily walked up to them. Paula and Alexa were shocked. "Em, what're you doing?" Paula hissed in restrained panic as the two kept their distance from the group.
She tried to ignore them and smiled at Georgia. "Hey, Georgia! Thank you so much for finding my camera!"
The cheerleader smirked at her. "Oh, this is yours? Makes sense. It's pretty cheap-looking."
"I'll gladly take it off your hands," Emily said as pleasantly as she could.
"Yeah, sure, Red," she said with disinterest. "But first I want a group pic with my gals. It'll be cool to have a retro photo for the squad bulletin board." On cue, the other cheerleaders gathered in a tight group behind Georgia, ready to take a selfie.
Emily's mind raced as she considered what to do. Her eyes were locked on Georgia's finger as it reached for the shutter button.
