"Well we better get you clothes that fit and me a," Laura chokes out the last word, "carseat."
"Yeah we definitely don't want to get pulled over again."
Kaitlin drives to a nearby 24 hour department store and parks. Leaving the resealed dice locked back in the glove box, the two head inside. It's pretty empty and the employees barely glance at the duo. Laura finds herself lifted up and buckled into a cart.
"Hey!"
"I want to be done here quick and you walk too slow."
"Fine."
First they make there way over to the clothing section. Kaitlin quickly picks out a few outfits and steps into the changing room. After stripping off her old clothes she stares in the mirror for a moment. With her height being more than a little shy of 5 feet, heavily freckled face, and tiny breasts she could almost be mistaken for a middle schooler. She blushes at the memory of wearing only platform shoes, applying excessive amounts of make up, and padding her bras to hide these features back in the day.
But today she settled with a simple outfit of an A-cup bra, a knee length skirt and leggings, a pair of converse shoes, and shirt declaring her the "nap queen". She takes some extra items,in case they aren't back to normal tonight, and steps out.
Laura is fidgeting in the seat when she sees her friend emerge, "Ok can we just get the carseat and go now."
Kaitlin dumps the clothes in the cart and responds, "In a minute first we should get you some spare clothes, your highness."
She pushes the cart over to the toddler section. She moves Laura from the seat to the basket and pulls off her dress.
"What are you doing? Why can't we do this in the changing room?"
"You're four. No one is going to bat an eye seeing you in your training pants."
Laura pouts as Kaitlin makes her model some options. After the first couple she feels pressure building in her bladder.
"Kaitlin I need to use the bathroom."
"In a minute we just need to find a couple things that fit."
That process turns out to take too long for a toddler's body to handle. Laura blushes as she wets herself right in front of Kaitlin.
"Laura!"
"I told you I had to go! It's not my fault!"
"You're sounding like a real toddler making excuses right now. Sorry, I'm talking like your big sister not your friend. I'll change you back at the car ok?"
"Ok."
Once Kaitlin has selected a few outfits, she puts Laura back in her princess dress and sits her back down in the seat. Laura shifts uncomfortably as she sits in her soaked underwear.
Kaitlin moves over to car seats and quickly locates one appropriately sized for Laura. She also stops to grab some other supplies like sippy cups, a training potty, and even a couple toys.
"Kaitlin I'm not going to be a toddler for...mph"
Laura finds herself silenced as Kaitlin sticks a pacifier in her mouth.
"I know. These are just in case. Hopefully I'll be returning them tomorrow. Now quit talking so much people might get suspicious."
Once Kaitlin is satisfied she has enough stuff, she heads to check out. She explains to the concerned looking cashier that her Uncle was sick and her mom, whose at the hospital, sent her to buy some things for her cousin who would be staying with them for a little while. She gets complimented on how good and helpful a daughter she is and the cashier seems to lower her suspicions.
Once everything is paid for Kaitlin exits the store and returns to her car. She first loads her purchases into the trunk then installs the carseat. Finally she lays an antsy Laura down for a change. Laura is mortified as her friend whipes her down, applies baby powder, and slides on a fresh pair of training pants. As she's buckled into the car seat she's at least grateful to be free of the cold damp pair. Kaitlin climbs back into the driver's seat and pulls out of the parking lot.
