Kyle realized that the best way to get out of this predicament was to swap with an animal. If he swapped with an object, there was no way to ensure that someone would test the device on him or that he could use the device in any way. And he really didn't want to spend the rest of his life as a tree.
It took Kyle about an hour of careful observation in the fading evening light to finally see an animal. There was a squirrel running through the grass. He judged that the squirrel, about 8 inches tall, was just bigger than the device, so if he was in the squirrel's life he should have no problem using the device. Kyle made up his mind, and first selected himself, then aimed the device on the squirrel. It was harder to aim because of the light, but Kyle was determined. He selected the squirrel and pressed swap.
Kyle felt the odd buzzing feeling of reality shifting around him, and then found himself standing eye level with a field of grass the same size has him. His feet were buried in the dirt beneath him, and the remote was lying in front of him, almost 10 feet long. Before he had a chance to realize what had happened, there was a flurry of movement, and a giant furry paw pressed down on him, bending him backwards until his body was lying on the ground. His entire body was bending to accommodate the weight, and as soon as it came it went. As his body slowly returned back to its original shape, Kyle looked and saw an enormous squirrel, maybe 18 feet tall, running away in the distance.
That's when it clicked. He'd missed the squirrel, and instead swapped with a blade of grass. He looked in the distance, and confirmed it by seeing one giant blade of grass sticking out of the ground where he had been standing. Not only did he swap lives with a tinier plant, he actually changed size, and was now only 4 inches tall.
Kyle tried to lift the remote, but it was too heavy to move any considerable distance. Kyle felt fear well up inside him. Could this be the end? Would he be stuck like this?
