This is a story about the Thrivesons, a common, ordinary, family.
Dad William, 48, truck driver, big and strong, slight belly, brown hair, with a brown beard.
Mom Lisa, 32, cycling instructor, thin and slender, with dark black hair.
Brother Olly, 10, very nice, even to his sister.
Sister Andi, 8, has her name commonly mistaken for a boy's name, but is nice and clever
One day, things became a less than ordinary day for the Thrivesons, for because on that day, the Thrivesons discovered a fountain of size!
That One day, William looked out of his window, and almost spat out his tea in shock. He had discovered a fountain of size in his backyard, a fountain with 2 bowls on it; a big one, and a small one.
the rest of the family went up to the window and saw it for themselves. They were amazed.
William went on his laptop, and looked up 'Fountain of Size'.
he found out a lot about it.
He had remembered reading about the fountain of size when he was a kid.
He remembered that drinking from one of the fountain’s bowls would cause whoever drunk from that bowl to magically change their size.
‘Drink from the small bowl, and you will shrink, to smaller and smaller sizes. Drink from the big bowl, and you will grow to gigantic proportions.’
OF course, he was sure it was meant to only be a myth. but to have a real fountain of size in his yard... WHAT WERE THE ODDS????????!
The family went up to it.
"What are the odds that we'd get an actual fountain of size in our yard?" Olly said.
"Beats me." William said. "Right. Whichever bowl we drink from, we change size. The big bowl makes us big, the small bowl makes us small."
He'd always wondered what it'd be like to change size.
The family wondered how cool it'd be to be huge; about the size of giants, stomping round the world. On the other hand, they always wondered what it would be like to be extremely tiny; nearly microscopic.
"So," Lisa said, "Who's gonna try the fountain out first?"
"And," she added, "Which bowl will that one drink from?"
