Over head, the skies were still black.
The fog had cleared, for now.
But the temperature was just too damn hot. It was 105 degrees in the shade, and the humidity was at 100%. No one knew how it could be so hot when there was no sun shining through....
But the attention of the soldiers was directed more at the fate of the 12 soldiers that had attempted to infiltrate Stanley Hall to rescue the hostages.
They had failed - pretty badly.
The first 4 had failed to secure the lobby, and the other 8 were sent in to reinforce. It was very quickly discovered that the tranquilizers were of virtually no use against the wolf creatures. The chemical compound did eventually work, but only after about a half hour.
On another downside, the silver ammunition was also a waste. It had no effect. It acted just like a regular bullet did - the silver would not kill the wolf creature unless the bullet entered into the head or heart, or the wolves just bled to death from their wounds, and one did.
The rest of the defending creatures survived, which is more than the attackers did. 10 were dead, and 2 were unaccounted for, and just assumed to be dead.
1 body was pulled out of the lobby by a group of four soldiers that rushed in to help. That 1 soldier bled to death in a matter of moments due to extreme lacerations.
The snipers had some better luck though. Once the assault had begun, the snipers were authorized to fire, and all 12 were using Barret M82's, which fired a .50 caliber (half inch) diameter shell. The snipers had picked off about 14 were-creatures as they ran past windows.
The soldiers were now issued M-16A2's in place of their tranquilizer rifles, as well as other munitions. The M-16 fired in 3 round bursts or 1 round semi-auto. No full auto.
The regular army soldiers were ordered to pull back and form a perimeter.
The media was prepared to prepare for Mission Creep, better known as escalation.
More soldiers would be sent to reinforce the perimeter around the university grounds, and Marines were being driven in with heavier weapons.
In addition to the Marines were MATU's - Marine Anti-Terrorist Units. These units specialized in hostage rescue, terrorist "hunting", etc.
In addition, 6 Turkish Anti-Terrorist units were also being flown in. Turkish forces were the best in the world for dealing with hostage/terrorist situations.
And overhead, the skies remained black, the temperature and humidity high....
And the dark cloud overhead was beginning to grow.
As word of the University Siege spread, people began panicking. Thunder Storms were scaring the shit out people in other parts of the nation, and some had begun to hoard food.
2 people were dead after what best could be described as a stampede occurred in a food market...
Military "Intelligence" began to think that the transformations may even begin to spread across the nation. There had been a handful of cases on the campus where males had begun to transform, and a handful of cases in which females had not been effected at all by what ever was plaguing all of the other women at the Universtiy....
As the siege wore on, the situation just kept getting worse across the nation...
