Mike decides to focus on Nancy, a skinny blonde who seems uncomfortable with the whole shrinking situation every time he sees her. She was one of the last sorority girls to find and shrink people she didn't like, and he suspects she only did so to avoid drawing attention. Whenever another sorority girl talks about shrinking people or their reign of terror, Nancy nods and goes along but never seems enthusiastic. And Mike’s certainly never seen her carrying anyone around in her panties.
Unfortunately, Nancy also seems to avoid the common room where the sorority girls have set up their miniature town, with Mike hanging in a birdcage over the tiny residents. He knows she lives in the sorority house, but he rarely sees her, and only when she's led there with other groups of her sorority sisters.
Mike waits another two weeks, and Nancy never shows up in the common room by herself. He thinks he makes eye contact once, but he can't be sure. And even if he did, so what? It could mean anything. Mike is also confused as to how all these people could be shrunken down with no one at the university the wiser, but he has no idea what's going on in the outside world. He decides maybe it’s time to pick another sorority girl who he’s more likely to speak to alone.
And of course that's when Nancy finally enters the common room. It's late at night, so the lights are out and Mike’s already asleep. It's only good fortune that he wakes up as she comes in. Finally, his chance.
"Hey, Nancy," he says in a normal voice. No one else can hear him. "Over here."
She turns and looks in his direction, then glances around her furtively. "I'm not supposed to talk to you." She speaks more quietly, obviously hoping no one else hears her.
"I know," Mike says. "But I need your help."
"Help with what?" she says.
"I think your friends are out of control," he replies. "We need to stop them."
Nancy smiles. She's cute.
