Before Alisa left the room, she paused in the doorway. Luke and Suzie were arguing behind her. She knew that if they separated, her children would have some time apart, but inevitably, they would end up joined to someone else. This was made clear since her husband became joined to his co-worker. Taking a shacky breathe, Alisa turned around and explained the situation to the kids, unzipping the suit as she did.
"I'm sorry, it was supposed to be a little prank. But, I shouldn't have made you think that this was permanent." Alisa sighed, "We don't know how long after initially separating it occurs, but your father found out the hard way that the next person you become in contact with... you will be joined together with another person you come in contact with, permanently. Not even the suit will be able to undo it."
"Well mom... I don't appreciate you making Suzie and I think we were stuck with each other, but if what you're say now is true... Mark!" Luke suddenly exclaimed his friend's name. He jumped off his little sister's bed, being careful not to touch either of them.
"Where are you going?" Alisa asked.
"Mark and I used the suits first. He doesn't know about the... not touching anyone. I have to warn him." Luke yelled as he ran down the stairs.
Alisa heard the front door close hard. "I hope he warns him in time..." she sighed. She then looked at her daughter, "Suzie, how are you doing with this?"
Suzie had her arms crossed, staring at her mother. "How long?"
"Excuse me." Alisa questioned.
"How long were you going to leave Luke and I together?"
"Honey..." She reached a hand forward, but stopped herself. "Your right. I shouldn't have tricked you both. But when I saw what happened to your father, it almost seemed like the best thing to keep you and your brother joined. Now, you and he will inevitably join to someone else." She sighed. "Me included. We can try to be as careful as we can, but we will all be stuck permanently to someone. With you and your brother... at least you two were related." Alisa did not believe her own excuse, and clearly, neither did her daughter.
"I want to be left alone... for at least as long as I can." Suzie turned to stare at her feet. Alisa left the room thinking illy of their family's future.
