Dylan was so caught up in his excitement that he didn't think twice before diving back into the box for more. He figued that if he already had the trunk, it would only look right to add the ears, so he searched through the box until he'd found a thin mass of gray skin. He tugged it free of its surroundings, revealing an elephant ear about the size of his head.
Laughing with delight, Dylan held it up to the side of his head. He quickly realized that it was facing backwards, so he switched it over to his left ear. Feeling around, he found a sort of slit on the part that would rest against his head. With some slight difficulty, he eventually managed to peel the slit open and slide his ear inside.
As he released it, the slit closed back on Dylan's ear, squeezing it tight. He adjusted the elephant ear against his head so that it sat more comfortably, and as a result, more tightly, over his ear. As the costume piece squeezed his ear more tightly, it began to numb, until he couldn't feel the costume around his ear at all.
As his human ear numbed, Dylan began to get the vague sense of feeling from the costume ear itself. He felt his own fingers move and manipulate the costume piece, like a limb waking up. Soon, just like his trunk, the ear felt like a natural part of Dylan's head.
Grinning, Dylan rummaged around in the box again until he could find the ear's matching pair. Repeating the process, he shortly had a pair of gray elephant ears where his own used to be, matching the trunk and tusks he sported on his face. He laughed with delight at his strange reflection and shook his head around, feeling the odd sensations of his new features bending and shaking about. He played with his ears for a bit, learning to move them, curling them back on themselves, and posing in the mirror.
Eventually, Dylan realized that it would be difficult to explain if someone saw him like this, and he wanted to experiment more, so he looked through the box to see if he could find instructions on how to take the costume parts off.
