Lauren started to cry for her Momma, she couldn't get up and she didn't want to end up like the twins Joy and Julie. Their expressions betrayed their shock that not only were those brays coming from Joy and Julie but that it was the only sound they seemed capable of whether by physical or more terrifyingly, mental limitation.
Joy and Julie bucked wildly as the realization of their nature, the shock of their sudden transformation and knowing what it would mean for them drove them to madness. Lauren could only watch as Joy and Julie galloped around the room, braying. Joy soon smashed the mirror before running a short distance upon which she kicked off her jeans and panties. Kicking and bucking too, Julie soon threw through the air her clothes that, as a donkey, made her uncomfortable.
Julie kicked over several more pieces of furniture, sending a chair flying near to Lauren. Lauren's mind reeled as she tried to comprehend what she'd just witnessed. Seeing her friends not only turn into asses but reduced to such a panicked state was both sad and terrifying. In a sense, Joy and Julie were already donkeys, even before they became one in body. Donkeys didn't drink beer, play pool, poker or smoke cigars but Lauren found herself understanding that they would if they had the ability and opportunity. Joy and Julie were what donkeys would be if they had a human form and understood how to do human things.
Lauren now understood to were such thinking could lead. A renewed desire to do right and earn being a good girl went through Lauren. But, was it too late?
Moments before, warmth and tingling went through Lauren's ears and then she heard a gray donkey tail tearing her jeans. She could feel donkey's flesh on her own body. She remembered the things she'd done. Was she to become an ass as well?
Then, Rebecca appeared through the room. She had two long and reddish brown ears and a furry tail moving from side to side in agitation.
"Lauren," Rebecca cried.
Lauren ran over the Rebecca. "Rebecca help!"
"Joy and Julie she-she changed into donkeys" Lauren said. "They couldn't speak and they kicked and ran out and..."
Tears were falling from Lauren's eyes.
"I know Lauren. All the boys and girls, they're all donkeys," Rebecca said touching her own donkey ears. "And you too,".
Lauren could only nod.
"Come on, we have to get out of here before we get any worse," Rebecca said.
She led the way with Lauren following.
"It's this way! Hurry, before they see us," Rebecca said.
They ran through the darkened island as fast as their legs could carry them.
"Wait, what about Joy and Julie?" Lauren asked.
"Lauren, it's too late for them," Rebecca said. "Even if we could find them, two donkeys can't climb and I don't think they can swim."
Lauren shared her revelation with Rebecca.
"That's the problem, Lauren; we can't change Joy and Julie back into humans if that isn't what they are on the inside or what they truly want to be."
"And you do not? Just like them and me, you acted like a donkey.", Lauren said angrily.
Rebecca dropped her tail and ears. She was ashamed of what she said. She would take the place of one of the twins if she hadn't realized earlier that the boys and girls were turning into asses.
But Rebecca was right, and Lauren felt a pang of guilt at knowing Joy and Julie can't turn into humans if that isn't what they are on the inside or what they truly want to be. Perhaps even their nature had seemingly doomed Joy and Julie to life as donkeys. That, coupled with seeing the island in ruins, perhaps revealing its true nature or at least the results of the lifestyle in which it tempted one to live, as well as knowing how close she was too becoming a donkey herself only served to increase Lauren's desire to be a good girl.
"I wish we could save them," Lauren said.
"I know Lauren, I know," Rebecca said. "But, we need to save us while we still can. There's nothing we can do for the others. I wish we could. But it's too late for them. We can still save us and we gotta while there's still time."
They came upon a rocky cliff and climbed it. As they neared the top, Lauren looked at Rebecca.
"We're going to have to jump," Rebecca said.
Lauren and Rebecca took one last look at the park. Remembering everything they did there, which almost caused them to transform into asses.
The two girls gulped and nodded before they looked down into the water below and jumped.
