Going against your better judgement, you pack a rifle and leave your hideout to find the woman. What is unnerving is that Applewood Street is right beside the wolf-infested woods. You exit the alleyway and look back at your building one last time before starting your walk. The streets are dead with silence. You know there are other humans here, but no one speaks or even reveals themselves to each other out of fear of being infected.
Your walk is quiet. You’ve snuck through the streets before, but this time is different. You can sense something is off; you feel every beat of your heart. “just another block away.” You reassure yourself while picking up the pace. You can’t help feel you’re walking into a trap.
Finally, you come to an intersection with a street sign that read, “Applewood.” You stand on the corner of the road, looking around for any sign of human. You unstrap your rifle and grip the handle tightly. Your heart nearly drops when you suddenly hear a voice,
“Over here.” A gentle, but strong voice says. You see the silhouette of a hand waving from a first-floor apartment window. Her building is on the edge of town, right beside the woods.
“Are you okay?” you ask as you walk up her steps to the front door.
“I’m fine, now that you’re here” says the strong feminine voice from the window.
You blush, feeling like a real hero. But her voice has you perplexed. It sounds deep and powerful.
“Come inside, quick.” She says as her apartment door opens…
