Rose reached out a hand and gently grasped Jane's chin "Breathe, Jane, concentrate your anger on Billy. No one is to blame but him. You told me you were helping me with coping with my new sexuality. Well, we can make a deal: if either of us decides to move on after all this is over for any reason, then we'll remain friends."
Jane nodded in in silence, a grimace of anger still plastered on her face
Rose continued in a gentle patient voice "Bear with me while I nerd out a bit, OK Jane? "
Jane let out a weak smile and a resigned but slightly amused sigh "After you, detective Rose Cassidy"
"Oooo I like it!" Rose exclaimed in a flirty tone. However she quickly shifted to a serious and sombre posture, motioning Jane to sit down on the bathroom floor. . She needed a bit of help to avoid slipping on the smooth tiles but eventually they were both cross-legged, with Jane resting her head on Rose's shoulder while the latter produced a notebook and pen, presumably to write down what they knew about Billy so far
"OK, so this is all I've gathered from observing Billy's behaviour, some of it might be obvious, but we should write everything down just in case any of it changes and we need a reminder. He seems to be justifying his perverse actions with a warped sense of justice. He seems to have acquired this power suddenly and unexpectedly, which would explain why he's changing people to his personal preference. In short, his power got to his head. As long as he has the smallest justification to change someone, he can easily justify imposing his own perverted desires onto that person. "
Jane was blown away by Rose's wits. And, she had to admit, Roses' brains really suited her. She didn't want to interrupt Rose's flow, so she quietly gave her a peck of encouragement on her cheek.
"Despite all his power crazed actions" Rose continued "He seems to be of a careful, perhaps even paranoid, nature. It'd make sense for him to change himself, though it seems like he's hesitating on doing so. This could mean two things: he either has a lot of respect for his power and wants to understand it fully before committing, or he's scared of it. It may very well be that some of his transformations might have had unintended results, however small they might be. The best example of this was his assumption that anger is impossible to manage and be focused on something positive. I sincerely doubt that his intention was for both me (Rose) and Jane to have fallen in love and become even closer. This means that his attempts to make sure his power doesn't backfire will lead him to become increasingly paranoid and controlling. This is his weakness. If we can somehow take advantage of this flaw, we might be able to stop his depravity."
Rose stopped writing to address Jane. They looked each other in the eyes "I need to be completely honest with you, Jane. We might have to stay put for a while to avoid making things worse for us. He probably plans to use Violet as leverage against us."
Jane growled, her anger making her try to take a swing at Rose, whoever all she managed was to make her body slide pathetically around the tiles of the bathroom. Rose looked at her prone crazed girlfriend and started crying, hugging her own legs against her body. Jane eventually noticed Rose's sobbing and managed to control her anger enough to speak up
"I'm sorry Rose, I love you and I don't want to hurt you, please forgive me."
"Jane, we'll get through this" Rose wiped her tears and said confidently "No matter what that shit head throws at us, we'll always be take a swing at him. We will fight him at whatever opportunity."
