"...A c-clown"
Annette cried into her hands as she buried her face to not let Jamie see her ugly crying. She knew that she was an ugly crier, and so did Jamie, but in her mind, everyone hated her crying face. Jamie couldn't care less about her thoughts on her crying face, she was more concerned about what she saw. Did that mean if she looked into the mirror now, she would look like a clown instead? Her mind wanted to go towards the mirror to test her theory, but even then she didn't want to risk the possibility that she would become a clown as well, or that her current changes would amplify.
"W-What am I going to d-do, Jamie? I d-don't want to be a clown. I hate clowns, I was always scared of them, even as a little kid"
"Okay, okay, just calm down for a second, Annette. Take a deep breath"
Annette did as she was told, easing her breaths from quick to slow. "Okay. I'm okay, I'm okay..."
Jamie had to ask a few things to Annette so that she had a better understanding of what this mirror could do. All she knew is that the mirror had the power to change themselves, and that people wouldn't see anything was different. This mirror made people believe that whatever they were changing into was what they were before. If that had the effect on others, what would that mean to them?
"Annette... what did the room look like?"
"What?"
"In the reflection, what did the room look like?"
"I-I-I don't know. I was more focused that I was going to be a clown. How would I know?"
"Concentrate, Anne, what did it look like?"
She took in another deep breath. "It... it didn't look like a circus, it looked mythical. Like a... like a forest or something. There were mushrooms and... they lit up... and the bed sheets looked like they were made by... spiders, maybe?"
"So the apartment stayed the same... it didn't change... okay..."
Annette was shocked. "What about me? I'm going to be a freakin' clown. What is Matt going to think of me?"
Jamie's eyes went wide, which only amplified the next change in her fairy like body. Her eyes strained as they opened wider and wider, her eyes felt like they were burning up, continuing to hurt until they were finished changing. They looked... bug-like, like a Powerpuff girl or an anime character, there was some sort of uncanny valley style to her now. It looked real and yet it didn't to her. She turned around, seeing Annette flinch as she saw another change.
"Check your phone"
"What?"
Jamie was blunt and serious. "Check your phone, now"
Annette was confused, but she checked. Her eyes couldn't believe it. Her mind couldn't believe it. Jamie couldn't believe it either. Annette's phone screen was originally a lovely photo of her and her boyfriend, Matt, out by the beach at night with the full moon in the background. The image of Matt was the same, but Annette... she wasn't even close to being the same. They weren't on the beach anymore. They were at a carnival at night, with fairground lights all over the place, making it a colourful night out. Matt was holding some cotton candy, and right beside him was a poofy-pink-haired whiteface clown, with diamond shapes under her eyes, huge blushed cheeks, dark blue bowties in her hair, drawn on eyebrows, a painted on smile, big as a golfball red nose, with a big multicoloured dress, striped socks that went above the knees, skirts that fluttered about, and the biggest pair of red clown shoes that she had ever seen.
Annette screamed. That was her. Or was going to be her. She started to panic. Which didn't help things.
"What am I gonna do, Jamie? I don't wanna be a goofy clown"
She heard herself speak, and she was horrified. She sounded like a female version of Goofy. That was her voice now. She started to whimper again.
"Right, we need to somehow stop this from continuing or we need to prove to others, our family, our friends, anyone, that we aren't like this. I'm not a fairy and you are not a clown. I'll cover up the mirror with a cloth, or towel, or something big enough so that no one can see it until we figure this thing out"
*pop-ding*
That was the sound of a message coming through on one of their phones. Who was it? Who could it be? They needed to hide this mirror fast.
