Josie huffed in frustration. This had gone completely different from her plan. She was supposed to expose them. She was supposed to be the reveal of how selfish they actually were. That hadn't happened at all. She had completely failed.
Connie was still bawling in front of Josie, looking absolutely pitiful. Even then, Josie still hated her. She couldn't forgive all the bullying. Yet Josie felt awful. All this crying. This was her fault. She couldn't take it anymore. She had to get out of here. She had to get home. There she collect her thoughts and figure out her next action
Josie turned to the doorway. It was blocked. Kendall stood there holding bags of groceries. He'd somehow returned much quicker than Josie anticipated. He didn't look pleased. How could he? His entire family was crying.
"Um. Th-This, I-I." Josie stammered.
Josie was stunned. She didn't know what to do, but she had to think of something. She had to explain herself. What could she say to make herself look less bad? Suddenly she got an idea.
"You passed the test!" she exclaimed.
What an idea. Josie figured she could just pretend this was a test. Maybe that could excuse all the things she said to them. She hoped they would buy it.
"I, um, wanted to help you, it's just that I had to test you. Like, um, if you wouldn't betray each other and stuff."
"You really wanted to help us out?" Connie sniffled.
It wasn't Josie's plan to help them out. She was just lying so that she could get out of here. She felt so dirty about this. Maybe she shouldn't lie to them. She could help them a little bit. She didn't want to completely fix their lives, but she didn't have to be harsh. She could let them change one thing.
"Yes." Josie answered. "I can help you, but, um just one change. No more. Just one."
"Why just one?" Kendall asked her.
"Um, that's just because of the way it is." she said.
While Connie's eyes were still wet, she was no longer crying. The babies hadn't stopped. Connie picked up Luna, attempting to soothe her. Holding her daughter, she asked Josie another question.
"What counts as one change?"
"It's hard to define." she replied. " It could be a change to anything about your lives."
"Okay then." Connie looked at Kendall "I guess we should discuss it."
"Yeah." Kendall agreed. "Josie can you give us a moment?"
"I can. Um, I'll just wait outside until you're ready."
Josie stepped out of the door. She stood in the apartment corridor, awaiting the couple's decision.
