It took about fifteen minutes. Josie stood there the entire time, feeling entirely out of her element. These two were assholes! They weren't supposed to...to...sacrifice for each other! Back when Connie had been Connor, he'd cheated on Kendall practically daily! And she was barely better, from what Josie had heard; she'd certainly been cruel enough to Josie and Jenny to make this sudden turn towards pure, self-giving love come entirely out of left field for Josie.
Finally, the door opened. Connie, having wiped her eyes and straightened her face somewhat, looked hesitantly at Josie.
"Um. We...we made a decision. Please, come in."
Josie took a deep breath and followed her in. Connie went in to sit on the couch next to Kendall, who was holding Luna. Leo was lying on his stomach on the sofa, burbling, until his mother picked him up. She looked tired, still, but Josie saw a flicker of real affection as Leo made eye contact with her. Kendall cleared his throat, and she turned her attention to him.
"We've given it some thought. So far as we can tell, the absolute worst part of all this has been how little support we've had as new parents from our famil-"
"I miss my mom!" Connie said, suddenly crying again. Kendall put a free arm around her and held her close as she buried her face in his shoulder, the twins burbling happily on their laps. Kendall resumed.
"Yeah. I mean, I miss my parents too, but, especially during the birth...Connie wanted her mom to be there so bad. To tell her what to do, how to make it work...we want our parents to know their grandkids. So if you can just alter things slightly so that our families accepted us again...that would make a world of difference."
Josie felt like she was going to be sick - she'd done this to these people. Where were the bullies they were less than a year ago?! This wasn't what she wanted! How did things go so wrong?
She took another gulping breath.
"I...I think I can only change it so one of your families accepts you again."
Kendall nodded, as if expecting that.
"Connie's. I remember how bad she cried for her mom during labor. I'd give anything to change that."
Josie winced, but nodded.
"Ok. I'll...I'll head home now and take care of that."
Without another word, Josie darted from the apartment.
