He grabbed hold of the door knob and opened it out on to an allyway, except it looked a whole lot cleaner out back then it did at the front, and it was sunny, it hadn't been sunny out front.
Curiously, James stepped outside and looked around, It was a warm summer's day and the air smelt clean. Closing the door behind him, James made his way out of the ally and onto to a brightly coloured street. But what shocked him the most were the people, for one thing they weren't human, they were anthropomorphic animals straight out of Beastars or Zootroplis.
He couldn't believe what he was seeing, actual anthros walking and talking, dressed like ordinary people! What was weirder was that there were a few humans here too and they were acting like this was completely normal. "You okay, sir?" Someone asked and James turned round, coming face to face with a police horse, or rather a horse dressed in a police officer's uniform.
James's reaction told the officer all that he needed to know. "You're new here." He said and James slowly nodded his head. "Well in that case, let me be the first to welcome you to West City. I'm officer Dale." He held out his hand for the young man to shake. "James." He replied, taking the officers hand and shaking it.
"When did you arrive?" Dale asked him. "Just now, I came into this store to have a look round and found this door...." He looked back down the ally and saw that the door he had come through was gone.
"Where's it gone?" James said and ran back down the ally to search frantically for it. "You didn't close the door behind you did ya???" Asked Officer Dale, following him. "Yeah?" He replied. Dale sighed. "You shouldn't have done that if you wanted to leave. The door can only be opened from the other side, it vanishes once you've closed it."
James couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Sorry kid, I guess you're here to stay."
