Robbie moved to put the bowl on the ground, still panting, but instead of getting up after he dropped the bowl, he continued to bend down, his hands touching the ground.
"Robbie," Megan said, distractedly as she finished setting the food on the table. "What did I tell you? Stop playing around and get the food out of the car."
But Toby headed toward the car instead. Robbie was looking around the bowl, confused as to why there wasn't any food in it. When he first bent down, his rear was higher than his head, but as he walked around on all fours around the bowl, his back was no longer sloping up, but down.
Megan, in the meantime, found herself distracted, leaning over the table and taking a big bite of one of the sandwiches on a paper plate.
"Ma..." Robbie called.
Megan answered incoherently, with a mouth full of roast beef sandwich.
