More Age-Appropriate Treatment

“…have breakfast.”

“We’re not drethed though,” Kaitlin protested.

“Luckily, I have some clothes just your size,” Anna replied, going over to a dresser and opening one of the drawers. She removed a short, frilly toddler dress from the drawer and went back to Laura, still sitting on the floor. “You can pick something out, Kaitlin.”

As Anna dressed Laura, Kaitlin walked to the dresser and looked inside the drawers. Laura’s stomach growled. “Oh, I think someone might be hungry,” Anna cooed. She picked Laura up and set her on her hip. “When you’re dressed, you can join us in the kitchen for breakfast.”

By the time Kaitlin had located a suitable outfit – a pair of light purple shorts and a pink shirt with a unicorn on it – and walked to the kitchen, Laura was already in a highchair by the table, eating a bowl of dry cereal with her fingers.

“Hop on up,” Anna said, placing a plate of pancakes on the table. Kaitlin walked over but scowled at the booster seat on the chair. “Do you need some help getting up?”

“No,” Kaitlin mumbled, reluctantly climbing onto the chair. She frowned at the pancakes, which had already been cut. “I need a fork.”

“Yep.” Anna handed her a fork.

“Why I no pancake?” Laura whined. Anna walked over to the highchair and ruffled Laura’s hair.

“You’re too little. Drink your milk.”

“No!” Laura shouted, pounding her fists on the highchair’s tray. “Want pancake!” Anna silently popped a bottle of milk into Laura’s mouth. Instinct took over once again and she began to suck down the milk.

“That’s more like it.” Breakfast passed in tense silence. Once she finished her pancakes, Kaitlin pushed her plate away.

“What’th nektht?” she asked. Anna, who was wiping off Laura’s face, looked over.

“You should go clean up and use the potty. You don’t want an accident again, do you?”

“No,” Kaitlin mumbled again. She hopped off her chair. Once she left, Laura found herself lifted from the highchair and placed in the playpen from last night.

“Don’t wan’ playpen,” she whined. Before she could say anything else, Anna popped the pacifier in her mouth.

“It’s just for a minute while I clean up,” Anna said. Laura silently sucked on her pacifier, pouting, while Anna picked up from breakfast.

Just as Anna put the last dish in the dish drainer, Kaitlin returned from the bathroom. “Did you potty?”

“Yeth,” Kaitlin said, sitting on the couch.

“Good. Number one or number two?” Anna asked. Kaitlin squirmed uncomfortably.

“Both,” she said softly. Anna nodded.

“Good. Don’t get too comfortable on the couch there.”

“Why not?”

“We need to get in the car.”

“In car?” Laura asked around her pacifier. Anna walked over to the playpen and picked her up.

“Yep. Come on.” Anna walked outside to the van in her driveway, Kaitlin close behind. While Kaitlin was able to climb in and buckle herself, Laura was instead strapped into a car seat.

“But-” Laura started. At Anna’s look, she fell silent and instead fiercely suckled her pacifier. Anna placed what was clearly a diaper bag at Kaitlin’s feet and got into the driver’s seat. They pulled out of the driveway.

“Where going?” Laura asked. Anna didn’t seem to hear her. Laura took out her pacifier to speak louder, but at the sensation of warmth growing in her diaper, she whimpered softly. She put the pacifier back in to suckle on for comfort. Her mouth fell open, the pacifier tumbling out onto her lap, upon feeling a rumble in her stomach. Before she could try to control her bowels, poop made its way into her diaper in addition to the pee.

Hearing the soft grunts coming from her friend, Kaitlin looked over. She wrinkled her nose at the sight of Laura’s face red and scrunched in effort. Finally, she stopped. A smell filled the van.

“Laura pooped!” Kaitlin announced. Laura let out a wail.

“Wow, someone’s a big pooper,” Anna said mildly. “Kaitlin, put her pacifier back in, will you?” Kaitlin did as she was told, silencing Laura. “Don’t worry, we can get you changed now that we’ve arrived.”

Kaitlin and Laura looked out the window and saw…
