None of the Maxwell family wanted to deal with what they had learned, none of them wanted to deal with the idea that they would become either scaled or feathered covered dragons. They did inform their family members and dealt with the massive amount of crying which came from that however it didn’t feel real. For the older two Maxwell children this also involved breaking up with their boyfriend and girlfriend. The family arranged for government lawyers who had experience dealing selling their property, like their homes, cars and even their cloths. Some family heirlooms where put in storage or given to other family members.
Finally, the day before their change was to start, the Maxwell family arrived at the North American Dragon Reserve (NADR), located just North of Yellowstone National Park. The small town which had barely been on the map before the virus now thrived off the jobs which came from housing, feeding and tending to the almost 1 thousand dragons which called this area home. There was also a growing tourism business as people came to see the sky filled with Dragons.
For the Maxwell family, they where not happy to be there. They where guided into a large hill which had been cut out, with multiple large caves connected by large tunnels.
“Welcome!” greeted a man in a white lab coat as the Maxwell family entered the largest center cave with seven large out coves. The only man made item was a medical trailer and seven tents equally spaced out around the cave. “This is the main living area of your new home.”
“You have got to be kidding me.” Said Susan as she looked at the dirt floors and ceilings.
“Dragons take a lot of space.” Explained the doctor “And one of our other residence dug this all out for you. Now lets walk through the process of transformation, shall we?”
“Do we have a choice?” inquired John already knowing the answer.
“I am afraid not.” Confirmed the doctor “Now in each tent, you will find a bed, there you will stripe and we will put you under and in a month you will wake up as a full dragon.”
“A month?” inquired Mary as the doctor raised an eyebrow.
“You didn’t read the packet, did you?” inquired the doctor as he let out a sigh, that was way to common. “Since the becoming a Dragon is a massive change, it is easier on the body to have it done with a mixture of pain drugs and sedatives. Besides…some of the changes is stuff no one wants to see themselves as. It is mentally easier to do it this way.”
“I see.” Said Mike as he looked at his family, as the doctor went on to explain that when they transformed, they government would provide them with basic food and housing in the form of a whole cow a day and this cave however they can make extra by giving rides, digging tunnels, taking part in movies and other activities.
“We have a sea dragon who is actively helping in deep sea research.” added the Doctor before going on to explain that while their tests showed they would be dragons and as far as they could tell they would all remain the same gender the type and age of dragon can’t be determined.
“We had an elderly man, who tested as become a male dragon transform into a dragon egg and when he “hatched” he had become a female dragon with all the memories of his human life.” explained the doctor.
This went on for over two hours and after a final human meal, the family shared a hug and went to their separate tents. With tears in their eyes and fear in their hearts they where put under and within a few hours they all began to show signs of transformation.
