Bill doesn’t want to be changed by someone he hired. But he wouldn’t mind being changed by a relative. He changed “client” to “brother”. The world suddenly grew. His 7-year-old lawyer was now much bigger than him.
“And…done!” the lawyer said. Bill got to his feet unsteadily. His lawyer’s mother came over and pinched the boy’s cheek.
“Good work, Clark! I’m so proud of you, winning that custody case for that nice woman and changing your baby brother, too!” The boy beamed. “All right, Billy, let’s go home!” Clark’s mother picked Bill up. Although, Bill supposed she was his mother now, too. He got one last look at his ex-wife, celebrating winning the case, as he was taken outside.
His new mother brought him to a minivan and buckled him into a car seat. Clark got in as well, but sat in the back, away from Bill. Their mother started the car, then drove away from the courthouse. With no one watching him, Bill took out the phone to fix the situation. He generated a new sentence.
It read “The toddler is going with his mother and brother for celebratory ice cream.”
