That night, Wilma realized she needed someone to watch Abby. She called Logan, who told her not to worry. He lived with his friend Wendell and his little brother Henry, who was Abby's age. Wendell could watch the kids while they were out.
So, Logan picked up both Wilma and Abby in his car and dropped Abby off at the house he and Wendell rented. Then the two went on their way.
Wendell welcomed Abby in. He was a nice guy, but clearly he was not experienced with kids. He told her he had some work he needed to get done and that Henry was down the hall.
As Abby moved down the hall, suddenly a boy jumped out of one of the doors. She shrieked, startled.
"Is everything alright?" Wendell called out.
"Yes, Wendell," the boy called back. He had a mischievous look about him, as well as looking like he'd overloaded on caffeine (actually it was his natural state). His black hair was badly tousled, he had quite a few freckles, and a couple of his teeth were missing- the Tooth Fairy, Abby assumed. He wore a Mickey Mouse T-shirt and ripped-up jeans, which looked like they'd taken quite a bit of abuse.
"I'm Henry," he said, thrusting out a hand.
"I'm Abby," she managed through her nerves.
"Aw, don't be scared. I won't bite. I'm not scared of anything, by the way," Henry added, puffing up his chest as he said so.
Abby believed him. She was amazed at how energetic and outgoing he was. She was so shy.
Leading her into Logan's home gym, Henry said, "I'm strong too. I can easily lift those," as he pointed to the 15 lb dumbbells. Turns out he was telling the truth, he had no trouble with them. Abby was impressed. He was so skinny she'd never have believed him without seeing it.
"Plus, I have the best thing for us to play with," Henry said with a sly grin. He slipped Logan's phone out of his pocket. "We can play games on here."
He hit an app he didn't remember. Abby recognized it, though.
"I know that! It can change anything when you change one word of a sentence," she said.
"Really?" Henry said excitedly. "Let's try it!"
