Laura is so preoccupied crying that she doesn’t notice someone leave the magic shop and walk over.
“Hey, sweetie, what’s wrong?” asks the man who has come to check on her. Laura sniffs loudly.
“I poopoo,” she whimpers.
“Yeah, I can see that. C’mere, I’ll get you all changed.” The man picks her up and brings her into the magic shop. Tears are still streaming down her face, but Laura is no longer sobbing. The man takes her to a back room, where he strips off her clothes and diaper. He quickly and efficiently wipes her down and tapes on a new diaper.
“I wonder if you have any clothes in your bag,” the man says to himself, opening Laura’s bag. His eyes widen. “Oh, no.” He looks at Laura. “The dice did this to you, didn’t they?” Laura nods tearfully. A bell rings at the front of the store. “I have customers, but if you’re willing to stick around, I’ll talk to you about your options once we close.” Laura nods again.
“Cold,” she mumbles.
“Yeah, I bet.” The man grabs a onesie out of a nearby bin and quickly puts it on Laura. “You’d be surprised by how many people we have come here in your situation. We have to stay stocked up on clothes and diapers for them.” The bell rings again. “Coming!”
Laura is carried back to the main front of the shop and placed in a playpen behind the counter.
“Sorry, I had to change my niece,” the man says. “How can I help you?”
Laura plays with the toys in the playpen while the man greets and helps customers. The day passes by quickly. When the store is closed, the man checks Laura’s diaper, deems her wet enough for another change, and quickly changes her. Once she is in a clean diaper, Laura is set in the playpen again. The man sits on the floor next to her.
“What do?” she asks.
“Well, you have a few options.”
